So if you‘re bored of eating and drinking at the same place and fancy trying something new, check out one of the new cafés, bars and restaurants on our list below: Located just above the traverse theatre, Dine recently opened in November 2015 with an aim to be a relaxed brasserie-style dining and drinking venue.

The Grassmarket now has a new pop up coffee shop located next to Dancebase, offering a selection of coffees originating from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Rwanda and Kenya.

The coffee shop uses the famous Swedish coffee Koppi coupled with the latest methods of brewing, giving Edinburgh a unique coffee option for the city.

Coffee breaks or 'Fika' in Sweden remains a focal point of Swedish and Scandinavian day-to-day life and something that we are sure Edinburgh residents can get used to!

Look out for Edinburgh themed burgers such as Lothian Wolf and Sunshine on Beef.

Guys, there’s a new cheese toastie shop in town and it is amazing.

The menu has a decent selection of different grilled cheese toasties, both sweet and savoury varieties, along with some sides and plenty of coffees and drinks.

The normal fries were great too, but next time I’ll definitely be ordering the sweet potato ones – seriously they were up there with some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had, which I wasn’t really expecting from a grilled cheese restaurant.

If I’m not mistaken, Meltmongers is the first grilled cheese shop in Edinburgh.

Yes, you probably know how to make a cheese toastie yourself, but Meltmongers have taken them to a whole new level with lots of different cheeses and fillings to choose from.

Mash options include a classic buttery version, Scottish cheddar and chive, and black pudding, with mouthwatering mains such as wild boar sausage with onion gravy, braised ox cheeks with mushrooms and gravy, and slow cooked rosemary lamb shank with red wine and cranberry sauce.

You’ll find traditional Scottish dishes on the menu, such as Cullen skink soup, stovies and kedgeree, as well as other hearty options like bacon and cheese toasties, mac and cheese, and beef stew with puff pastry and chips.

Their menu features gourmet versions of classic British dishes, such as The Ivy’s signature shepherd’s pie made with slow braised lamb shoulder and Isle of Mull cheddar mash.

Specialising in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, options here range from the Meltmongers Classic (with mature cheddar and American cheese on sourdough bread) to the more unusual Pizza Melt, with mozzarella and tomato, basil and garlic sauce.

On the menu you’ll find classic Scottish dishes with a contemporary twist, such as pan fried Shetland salmon with winter greens, heritage roasted potatoes and sauce vierge, plus sticky toffee pudding with Mackie’s ice cream for dessert.

Graham’s the Family Dairy has created a monster cheese stack challenge as part of the celebrations for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.

On offer for one day only, Wednesday 12th April, at Nic’s NYC Deli in Glasgow ( 2pm-6pm, 396 Byres Road) and Meltmongers in Edinburgh (9am-4pm, 80 Bruntsfield Place), the dish is thought to be the biggest grilled cheese sandwich ever made in Scotland – and special rewards have been promised to those who can finish it.

Carol Graham, Marketing Director at Graham’s the Family Dairy said: “Whether you prefer to call it grilled cheese, toasted cheese or roasted cheese, Wednesday is the perfect opportunity to order the ultimate comfort food; hot, melted, buttery cheese – ten whole layers of it.

Our customers love a food eating challenge, and what better way to get a ‘slice’ of the action than on National Grilled Cheese Sandwich day?”

Graham’s mature cheddar makes the grate-est grilled sandwiches and we’re looking forward to seeing who’ll become a champion of the Ultimate Cheese Stack.”

Meltmongers – The Best Cheese Toastie in Edinburgh

You might’ve noticed that there seems to be a toastie craze in the UK with shops popping up here and there, and you can only imagine how happy we were when Edinburgh got its own melt shop a few months back!

I spent a lot of my childhood playing in the grounds and it’s a wonderful green space with fantastic views of the Edinburgh skyline.

It’s both sad and depressing to see a contentious housing development has been given the go ahead by Edinburgh Council.

The Outsider on George IV  Bridge is consistently good for dinner and The Canny Man’s pub in Morningside – an Edinburgh institution that’s been run by the same family for generations.

The Crawford Collection is a bit of an unknown wonder at The Royal Observatory Edinburgh.
