When I hear the words ‘This Is Edinburgh’, the first thing that springs to mind is… When I hear the words ‘This Is Edinburgh’, the first thing that springs to mind is a vibrant, historic, fun and a very exiting city to live in and to visit.

I also love working in Edinburgh, it’s a city that has it all without being too big, you’re just so close to the sea, the mountains.

A perfect day in Edinburgh ends with a nice meal in one of the many restaurants that the city offers - followed by a pub crawl in the Grassmarket and Royal Mile.

The dominating presence of the Castle on the volcanic rocks, the unique New Town architecture and the great advantage of being near the sea, Edinburgh is packed with drama.

For fish and shellfish it has to be a visit to Ondine in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

The Royal Mile is actually five streets that run from Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Hollyrood.

They are Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street, Cannongate, and Abbey Strand.

Cafe Truva The Shore - Cafes in Edinburgh - The Skinny

With three brances across Edinburgh – Leith, Lady Lawson Street and Canongate – family run Café Truva has been dishing up rather fine Turkish Mediterranean cuisine to appreciative Scots for over a decade.

Diners can expect beautifully-presented mezze platters, freshly-made moussaka, all day breakfasts, filo pastry savouries and teeth-melting honey soaked baklava.

Couple that with traditional apple tea or 'runninng around like a squirrel on crack for the rest of the day' Turkish coffee and you've got a pretty good representation of our idea of heaven.

The 2017/18 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+ ).

You can now pop in for the same Café Truva Mediterranean menu at three branches across Edinburgh.

Leith, Lady Lawson Street and Canongate are all serving Turkish plates, a wide range of cakes and your usual café panini list against a varyingly elaborate backdrop of wooden panelling, colourful crockery and beautifully ornate light fittings.

The small, happily located Shore branch is the original, and has been serving excellent Turkish coffee for well over a decade now.

The quality throughout the menu is variable, with more success to be found among the cakes – the honey-soaked, nut-laced baklava, kadaif and shamali are all made on site – than some of the main dishes, which tend towards the expensive for what you get.

The £12.95 lunch menu is excellent value Founder and chef Paul Wedgwood’s plan was simple: create an unpretentious space where imagination, ingredients and great cooking are at the fore.

There’s a lovely relaxed feel here, from the contemporary décor to the modern Scottish menu.

By day, there’s a buzz about the place, as professionals, tourists, and locals happily lounge over the lunch menu.

It’s a bit indulgent, sure, but the ‘Deciding Time’ option – a glass of champagne and amuse bouche selection – is a perfect way to peruse the menu and begin the dining experience in style.

The lunch portions are decidedly smaller, but at £12.95 for two courses represent exceptionally good value and a great chance to experience some of the Wedgwood charm without fully pushing the boat out.
