Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh - The John Hope Gateway

The John Hope Gateway, RBGE's new biodiversity and information centre, is a shining example of green construction and sustainability, and sits on the footprint of the former Botanics Shop.

The John Hope Gateway commemorates RBGE's Regius Keeper from 1761-1786, Professor John Hope, a leading botanist and teacher of his time who was also responsible for unifying the Gardens at one site on Leith Walk (more information on the History page).

The John Hope Gateway offers visitors an unrivalled facility where they can discover the world of plants and the scientific work of RBGE through a unique set of interactive experiences and activities.

With the involvement of partners in science and conservation, The Gateway also provides a unique window on biodiversity in Scotland.

The building also houses other top-class facilities including a Shop, education room, a Real Life Science Studio, permanent and temporary exhibitions, interactive media, plant sales and Gateway Restaurant.
