East Pizzas

Scottish sourdough pizza, Eat-in or take away in Leith, Edinburgh.

east PIZZAS

We aim to keep the menus (below) up-to-date but please note there may be slight variations because of our desire to source local, seasonal ingredients.

Thoughtfully sourced ensures the highest possible quality.

Wherever possible we source food within 30 miles of our Leith location, and our meat and vegetables are organic.

Our dough is made in-house daily, and the menu changes regularly to echo the seasons.

Whether it’s the cheese or the gin, we try to use many local suppliers wherever possible.

Their latest venture is Edinburgh’s newest pizza restaurant: east PIZZA which opens on Saturday 7 October 2017 in Commercial Street, Leith.

Focused on thoughtfully sourced local and seasonal food and working with many local suppliers, the restaurant will produce high quality, homemade pizzas.

Seasonality will be core to the new offering and Roly and Rob will be using Scottish quality produce including freshly picked salads and even Scottish mozzarella.

Both chefs moved into the food industry from very different careers: Rob was an engineer and Roly worked in property.

After graduating Roly began the catering business, Toasted Radish, while Rob worked at the Purslane restaurant.

This Leith pizzeria serves sourdough pizzas using a ‘thoughtfully sourced’ ethos which strives for the highest possible quality ingredients while also supporting local suppliers.

A fairly recent addition to the Leith scene, East Pizzas serves up sourdough pizzas with a strong Scottish edge.

There are eight pizzas to choose from but the combination of rich kale pesto, Lanark blue cheese, mozzarella, capers and olives is a revelation.

More conventional choices such as anchovy, tomato, smoked mozzarella, capers and olives are just as good.

Alongside local food sourcing are local tipples such as Campervan Leith Juice, Leith Gin and Williams & Johnson single origin filter coffee.

Give pizza a chance with a visit to East Pizzas, says Gaby Soutar With Civerinos Slice to the South, La Favorita to the North and Quattro Zero to the West, it’s like the Capulets and Montagues, Crips and Bloods or Sharks and Jets.

So, my hybrid 10-inch disc was 50 per cent number three (beetroot, tomato, potato, smoked mozzarella and rosemary, £8) and the other half was one of their white pizzas, number five (rainbow chard, Lanark Blue, mozzarella and Isle of Mull cheddar, £8.50).

The uber cheesy yang side was probably my favourite, with a good punch from the blue cheese, plus a layer of iodine-y chard underneath the fromage slanket.

The other segment, numero seven (£9.75), featured the spicy topping of nduja sausage, along with creamy flecks of goat’s cheese, tomato and basil (usually oregano, but they were out of that).

I’ve seen that option in numerous joints, sometimes as a calzone, and always wondered who finishes their last slice, then fancies ANOTHER pizza for dessert.
