The rough brickwork and rich red paint of the interior is studded with wooden framed prints and simple dark wooden tables sit snugly in the cozy dining area.

The menu is not particularly adventurous; featuring classic pub dishes like fish and chips and steak pie, but the food is lovingly prepared from fresh produce.

This warm and welcoming pub also hosts a good selection of guest ales from a variety of large and small breweries.

Leith Chop House Review - Hidden Edinburgh

Now the word on the street is that the Leith Chop House is the place to eat right now in Edinburgh and having heard SO many good reports about the restaurant and eyeing up the menu online, I decided that one way or another I had to find out more about Edinburgh’s latest venture by The Compass Group (Sygn, Montieths and The WestRoom) that has taken not only the Shore by storm, but the whole of the city – given  the number of positive stories I had heard about it.

Located on Constitution Street at the Shore in arguably Edinburgh’s best eating and dining district; home to a growing number of award winning restaurants and bars as well as a some pretty big name Michelin Star restaurants, the Leith Chop House, fits in perfectly with it’s neighbours.

Beef is from top end suppliers – Burnside Of Balhaldie’s award winning Highland Wagyu, Hardiesmill Farm’s prime Aberdeen Angus and Shaws Fine Meats, who source from several small Scottish farms.

The Leith Chop House is the first restaurant in the UK to use one.

The pictures speak for themselves, it was super tender, the knife slide through the meat and it was melt in the mouth.

White Horse Oyster Bar, Edinburgh, restaurant review - Scotsman ...

From their selection of Small Plates, our favourite was probably the gummy chargrilled octopus (£9.50), with blackened (though not particularly charred tasting) and dramatically undulating kraken-like tentacles, wisps of crispy kale and a citrusy-soy ponzu sauce on the side.

The latter was supposed to come with ponzu sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi mayo.

I also loved our other single bivalve, with its hint of lip-smacking chilli-infused salty cabbage-y juice.

Apart from that, it was satisfying and rustic, with threads of burly pasta, a seam of chilli, tomato, and crispy fronds of fennel on the top.

The apple tart (£6.50), recommended by the lovely Aussie waitress, featured billowing underskirts of puff pastry, apple petals, a generous slosh of sticky caramel sauce and a blob of plush salted caramel ice-cream.

Anna Burnside's restaurant review: Wahaca, Edinburgh - Anna ...

food   menu   desserts   drinks   staff

Wahaca, a chain of upmarket Mexican eateries, has its first Scottish branch in the sweet spot of South St Andrews Street.

Wahaca is Mexican street food without the bother of queuing outside a truck then slittering shredded cabbage down your coat.

Guacamole with tortilla chips is one of the few old school Mexican restaurant standards that makes the Wahaca cut.

Smoky chicken and avocado tostadas, from the street food part of the menu, were mini miracles of gastronomic architecture.

Black bean and cheese quesadillas, also classed as street food, came in a lurid woven plastic basket, speared with a tiny Wahaca flag on a cocktail stick.
