The Rabbit Hole

The Rabbit Hole

The Rabbit Hole Restaurant Edinburgh

Opened in October 2015 by Mo Boulay and Antonello Esposito, who with their two children and dog Maggie are themselves based in Marchmont.

Inspired by their love of French food, Antonello’s Sicilian childhood and his wife’s rural Canadian upbringing.

Although tweaked every month with new dishes rotating, the back bone of the menu remains classic brasserie with something for everyone.

The Rabbit Hole’s interior lends itself to a relaxed dining experience.

Comfortable banquette seating wraps around the candlelit dining room, with generous bar stool seating arranged at the central New York inspired dining bar.

Hubby went for Cajun crabcakes with aioli (£6), my own choice being the more intriguing blue cheese & lobster beignets with spicy avocado cream.

At only £7, these three large boules looked appetising inside & out, full of choice pieces of lightly- cooked lobster & fine claw meat.

However perhaps some of the Cajun seasoning made it inside these, as well as Tabasco hiding in the innocent-looking pale green accompaniment, but just as I had registered the salty blue cheese flavour squaring up to the lobster, my tastebuds were whacked with chilli.

The duck skin was crispy and its meat still juicy.

Steady good service underpinned a nice new local experience worth going back for seconds.

Popular and creative brasserie with an unusual and pleasing menu The 2017/18 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+ ).

Amid this, The Rabbit Hole has dug in and made a home for itself.

A balance of meat, fish and vegetarian options demonstrate the creative flair co-chefs Antonello Esposito and Mo Boulay exercise in their kitchen.

Every layer of the crab lasagne is distinctive; crab meat stands out, never swamped by its fish béchamel.

Seared pigeon breast punches with cranberry dressing and the crunch of walnuts.
