While there are lots of options for vegan pizza in the Capital, Novapizza has arguably the largest vegan Italian menu in the city, boasting a wide selection of starters, pizza, pasta, and (perhaps most importantly!)

Of course, there are plenty of tomato-based pasta dishes on the menu, including spaghetti bolognese, penne all’arrabbiata and spaghetti all’amatriciana, but there are plenty of lovely creamy dishes to choose from too, featuring gnocchi, vegan cheese and even vegan ‘salmon’!

The vegan pizza menu reads like something you would find at any onmi Italian establishment, except that all the usual ingredients such as mozzarella, salami, ham and pepperoni have been swapped out for vegan alternatives.

So if you have been craving a vegan alternative to pepperoni pizza, then Novapizza will definitely hit the spot.

I was especially intrigued by the penne vegan salmon dish, a relatively new addition to the menu that was served with a garlic soya cream and fresh parsley.

All of the classics are present on the menu, and there is a wide range of starters, pizza, calzone and pasta.

However, Novapizza is Edinburgh's first vegetarian Italian restaurant.

Situated in Charlotte Lane, the western edge of Princes Street, @pizza is an urban and spacious ‘Millennial City’, offering a hip vibe, cutlery made from recycled vegetables and oval-shaped personalized pizzas that are ready for you in less than two minutes.

@pizza’s clean and cool atmosphere, contemporary black-and-white theme, and fast-cooking pizza made from locally sourced ingredients is clearly a carefully designed concept.

Neill Hunter says to The Student: “We have researched lots of fast, casual dining concepts both domestically and internationally because we love pizza.

We want you to eat fantastic, great-value, design-your-own pizza, served by people who we trust, who we love and who we are going to look after.”

I thoroughly enjoyed my 90 second pizza, and would highly recommend you take a trip to the restaurant.

Last Monday I was lucky enough to reserve a table at Novapizza Vegetarian Kitchen on their night to celebrate the addition of vegan pizza carbonara (oh yes – that is pasta sauce on pizza!)

Novapizza Vegetarian Kitchen itself is an intimate restaurant nestled on Howe Street in New Town.

First up was the pizza and I opted for Nova’s Smoky Mheat Pizza Amatriciana.

My friend and I chose to share one mocha cake with hazelnut gelato and one brownie with chocolate orange gelato.

I believe the mocha cake would receive five stars from anyone; it had the texture of a decadent ganache with a seriously intense coffee flavour and had my mouth watering from the first bite to the last.
