As we opened the door to come in, a young female staff member came to the door, and physically stood in the doorway while telling me I could not come in with my son.

When I said that is not a valid reason for us not to eat there, the staff member reiterated and we had no choice but to leave.

Not only was this extremely humiliatin g, but not having changing facilities is not a legal reason to deny an infant entry into a dining establishm ent, and to refuse a customer to dine there.

As an aside note, on two occasions I have eaten lunch with my son in the cafe (which is sadly now closed) literally up the street from Cafe Nom De Plume, which also do not have changing facilities .

myself and one-year old son were denied entry to Cafe Nom De Plume today.

A welcoming bistro that serves up French cuisine crafted from Scottish produce There’s much to love about L’Escargot Bleu.

Not least that while the UK was getting on its high, er, horse about the horse meat scandal in 2013, Bleu’s chef patron, Fred Berkmiller, was extolling the virtues of equine meat, and using it in one of his dishes (intentionally, and from a farmer in the south of France, who breeds the animals specifically for eating).

Such is Berkmiller’s genial charm that he could say he was Sweeney Todd, and diners would still come flocking to this convivial French bistro on Edinburgh’s hip Broughton Street.

Blackboards adorn the walls, scrawled with the day’s specials, which vary from traditional French classics to more surprising dishes from Berkmiller’s childhood.

Although this is a joyfully Gallic affair, the menu merrily celebrates the chef’s commitment to Scottish produce, and Berkmiller is a fan of name- checking the provenance of dishes – from Borders beetroot to Orkney scallops.
