food

Established pub with warm vintage finish, wooden floor boards and a bar that has good selection of real ales.

A good place for a quiet pint, a read of the newspapers, or idle natter, although its relatively small size and popularity mean that it can get busy quickly with standing room only.

During the Fringe 2009, the Barony bar - aka venue 311 - was the stage for an in situ play called Barflies produced by Grid Iron Theatre Company and The Traverse.

Fifties-set, feature-length animation The Illusionist (which opened the EIFF in 2010), featured drinking scenes inside the Barony.

Back then I hated it because it was really smokey and smelly (like many pubs back then) but the live acts on a Sunday evening pulled a great crowd.

Today it has excellent selection of Ales, Lager and IPA'S - a member of CAMRA and it has a great friendly atmosphere of all ages and personalities!

Great new menu!

Plenty of space within the pub, it can get very busy on a Friday / Saturday though.

The food isn't bad too, with the sausages coming from Crombies next door.
