value   food

The lunchtime deal at Bar Napoli has long been a much valued item on the Edinburgh dining scene, given its extreme cheapness and relative high-quality.

The restaurant was populated with a good selection of fellow lunchtime revellers, so the atmosphere was lively as we were shown to our seats in the rear section.

There was a degree of toing and froing between options before we settled upon soup of the day (mushroom) and insalata caprese, to start, then baked pasta for me and cannelloni for Arlene, to follow.

The soup was homemade and of good quality, but served in quite a small portion.

So overall, Bar Napoli’s lunchtime deal is a reliable offering.

When a restaurant has won awards for their ice cream, it’s appropriate to say, go there and go there now!

Bar Italia is one such restaurant that has literally award winning home made martone ice cream alongside high quality and authentic Italian dishes, making it the perfect trattoria to visit for a truly special night out.

This family owned and operated Italian restaurant in Edinburgh’s West End focuses on simple, yet fresh Italian fare combined with warm and friendly service that makes you feel as though you’re part of the family.

Select dishes like the haggis ravioli or rigatoni ai formaggi – all with house made pasta, or perhaps pizza spilinga, scaloppina parmigiana or pollo ripieno.

Whatever your choice, Bar Italia located on the bustling Lothian Road, will satisfy you without a doubt – just remember to save room for that award winning ice cream.

Located only a stone’s throw from the iconic and prestigious George Street, Princes Street and the Royal Mile, Bar Napoli in Edinburgh is one of the most sought after Italian restaurants in the city.

Bar Napoli is the ideal location for an intimate dinner for two, a large celebration with friends and family or a business lunch with coworkers.

So, what’s this fabulous menu all about then?

Kick things off in true Bar Napoli style with starters such as insalata di mare of fresh seafood and shellfish marinated in olive oil and lemon, costatine tender pork ribs in a spicy tomato sauce and an antipasto platter.

So do yourself a favour and reserve a table at Bar Napoli in Edinburgh’s New Town.

The food is a choice between classic gastropub favourites like fish & chips but with mushy peas plus new classics like chicken curry pie with chips –straightforward, no nonsense good mood food.

Lunch prices are excellent value around the £5 mark for mains and £4 for desserts-The Dogs is a great value choice for lunch or the evening.

I often nip in at lunchtime to take advantage of their popular Tapas for 2 offer for £10 (from 12 till 5pm) where you can enjoy a selection of 5 tapas dishes including house specialities like thin slices of cripsy Aubergine dipped in honey- delicious food and superb value this is probably the best budget diner in Edinburgh : must visit on any trip to the city.

Red Box Noodle Bar 51 West Nicolson Street A new entrant on the Edinburgh Food scene, I have been hearing some rave reviews of the Red Box and with prices of just £5 for a noodle box, no wonder this is becoming a fast food favourite with Edinburgh Diners.

Bar Napoli 75 Hanover Street   This basement restaurant on Hanover Street is a little slice of Napoli-red checkered table cloths, tables crammed in every conceivable corner, brisk no nonsense table service , affordable prices, huge menu and after pub opening hours makes this a perennial favourite for me.
