Haggis Hunt | Dough Pizza

This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned Dough on the blog.

Back in the autumn when I was last in Edinburgh, I was so pleased to have happened upon Dough’s Rose Street outlet and had its wood-fire bked pizza made with seawater dough.

The Scozia (handmade passata, fior di latte, Mcsweens Haggis, Stornaway Black Pudding, smoked pancetta, topped with a cracked egg, £13.95 for a 15” pie) kinda blew my pizza-loving mind.

Although in full disclosure, I thought it only fitting to sample something different from the Dough menu and went with a 15” Cheeky Choice (handmade passata, fior di latte, cured prime guanciale (pig’s cheek), and artichokes sprinkled with chilli flakes, £12.95).

Dough Pizzeria is located at 172 Rose Street, EH2 4BA with a sister location in the Newington area of Edinburgh.

Dough Pizzeria vegan review | Vegan Edinburgh

Dough has only been on the Edinburgh foodie scene for a year or two, but in that time they’ve really made their mark by making some of the finest pizzas in the city.

From their small cosy outlet on Rose Street you can buy whole pizzas for home delivery, or just buy a slice for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime.

At the moment there is one vegan pizza option at Dough: The Vegan Affair.

This consists of their usual crispy pizza base made with flour, yeast and seawater, topped with handmade Italian tomato passata, smoked vegan cheese, roasted aubergine, spiced roast peppers, red onions, roasted pine nuts and fresh rocket.

I’m personally not a huge fan of rocket so I will probably ask for less of that next time, but overall it was a very good pizza with a decent vegan cheese replacement.

If Pasta, Pizza and plenty of other delicious dishes are the order of the day, then these top Italian restaurants are the places to go.

Run by well known and hugely popular chef Rosario Sartore, who brings his family’s cooking all the way from Naples to this homely little restaurant on Dalry Road.

With huge portions and a straight forward and honest approach to Neapolitan dishes, you’ll find it is one of the best restaurants in town, never mind just for Italian cuisine.

The menu is huge and covers all corners of the Italian culinary map, with their pastas and pizzas considered to be some of the best in the city.

Frizzante has actually won an award for gluten-free catering and was a finalist last year in the Scottish Italian Awards for “Best family restaurant.”
