You would expect a seafood restaurant to serve up a great chowder and Mussel Inn didn't disappoint.

Usually there's something else on the menu that grabs my attention a little more than the meaty molluscs but there was no way that I could accept an invitation to Mussel Inn and not try their signature dish so for my own starter I opted for a half kilo of mussels cooked with garlic, chilli and smoked cheddar.

The plump mussels were deliciously fluffy with an almost earthy mushroom flavour whilst the cooking liquor at the bottom of the pan was a meal in itself, rich with garlic and spicy from the chilli but the flavour from the smoked cheddar was the star of the show.

Nicola had managed to avoid ordering scallops for her starter but the lure of the main dish of pan-fried King Scallops with smoked haddock, marscapone and pea risotto was too strong, so her decision was very easy.

The Thermidor sauce at Mussel Inn didn't have the depth of flavour that I was looking for but it was still a deliciously rich combination of salty butter and nutty, creamy cheese that worked wonderfully with the sweet and tender lobster meat.

Switch wasabi for whipped cream and you have all you need for a seafood (but not calorie) free Japanese inspired cupcake.

Alongside this on the website are knitted hot cross buns, carrot cake, plum pudding and even a box of a dozen eggs.

It could only be Katy Perry, the same diva who has been known to wear a Christmas tree dress, a ferris wheel skirt and a fried egg outfit.

Sushi-aholics have a whole of menu of nigri, California rolls and even a soy sauce pillow case to dream about.

Can’t find your favourite tuna tempura dragon roll with extra wasabi on their website?

don't be fooled by the basic chip shop style interior, the food is beautifully presented and the mussels are to die for.

from mexican to moroccan and blue cheese to roasted pepper sauces, you can have your mussels in  ½ kilo or kilo pots.

i went for a kilo of course, which was roughly 60 mussels.

"Our mussels are grown on ropes in sea lochs on the West of Scotland and the Shetland Isles.

The Mussel Inn is always changing the variety seafood on offer, making sure that each dish is as fresh and innovative as possible.

And you will not be disappointed by the hot seafood platter: king and queen scallops, tiger prawns and mussels poached in seafood sauce topped with grilled sea bass fillet and crème fraiche.

With a fantastic selection of Scottish steak and seafood, alongside excellent wines, artisan beers and ciders, Wildfire is a crowd-pleaser.

There is an excellent selection of ramen, sushi and yakitori, and the sashimi is so fresh it melts in the mouth.

There is a good selection of beers on tap and free ales, and the Scottish-based menu is a good bet for dinner.

After much deliberation I opted for the hot smoked salmon starter (£6.90) and my husband went for the fish cakes (£5.80).

There are mussels a plenty on the menu here, served with a variety of sauces and in ½ kilo or 1 kilo pots.

Neither my husband nor I are particular mussel fans so we decided not to go for these and instead chose from the wide variety of other main courses on offer.

The crab pasta was tasty with a lovely lime and coriander sauce and a good kick of chilli.

Almost every table were having mussels, served in lovely big steaming pots, and despite being full from our starters and main courses we couldn’t help feel a little disappointed we didn’t try them!
