Wildfire | Welcome to Lunchquest

I’d long been promising myself a visit to Wildfire, the steak and seafood restaurant on Rose Street, as I had a feeling that my intermittent quest for a good steak restaurant in Edinburgh may find fertile ground within its walls.

At lunchtime, you can choose from a lunch menu with a nice array of options, or their full a la carte.

Their lunch menu offers good value, with two courses for £11.95.

From that menu, I opted for soup (lentil and bacon), followed by the rump steak, served with fries (a mere £2 supplement).

Their menu has a really nice balance to it, offering plenty of scope for carnivores, but also catering well for those requiring lighter lunchtime bites.

Edinburgh Scottish Restaurants: 10Best Restaurant Reviews

Rather than a menu patrons are presented with a list of around twenty ingredients, some familiar, many obscure and intriguing.

From this list you discard anything that is not to your taste and you place yourself in the capable hands of the chef and wait with baited breath.

A four course meal costs around ?

35 (but by the time you add in all of the little extras such as the delicious artisan bread it feels more like a eight course feast) which proves to be very good value for money.

The décor is cool, clean and minimalist and the food is immaculately presented and delicious.

Describing itself as “Edinburgh’s first gourmet steak restaurant,” Kyloe only serves the best Scottish beef dry aged for a minimum of 28 days.

Tender cuts of rump, sirloin, ribeye and t-bone – seasoned with their signature steak rub – are served up from locally sourced farms, with most expertly prepared on the bone.

Probably not, and although there are a few non-meat options on the menu, cuts of beef are very much a way of life here, with a range of 21-35 day aged cuts of sirloin, fillet, ribeye or t-bone there to satisfy diners carnivorous cravings.

All 21 day aged steaks come from the Club’s registered butchers and the knowledgeable staff are trained to advise on which cut to go for based on the customer’s individual tastes.

If you are feeling adventurous and are sharing, then we recommend the Butcher’s Block for two – a variety of steak flavours and cuts including their 30 day aged Fillet 8oz, 50 day aged grain fed Ribeye 8oz, 30 day aged Rump 8oz and brisket stuffed marrow bone.

Rose Street is a popular destination for pub crawls, but if you need something to eat after a drinking session, or you've been shopping on nearby Princes Street, then you'll find great steak and seafood here.

The best Aberdeen Angus steak, Scottish lamb, West coast mussels, fresh fish, and delicious local cheeses can all be found on the menu.

It's a comfortable restaurant with a traditional Scottish feel thanks to exposed stonework and open fires.

Wildfire Theatre Begins Pioneering Programme at Traverse ...

Founded by experienced theatre makers Pauline Lockhart, Molly Innes, Wendy Seager and Natalie Arle Toyne, the aim is to bring women from disadvantaged backgrounds into the theatre.

Following in the footsteps of pioneering companies like Stellar Quines (set up in 1993 to promote and support the work of women in Scottish theatre), Wildfire Theatre also wish to right another wrong: to address the dominance of male-produced and male-focused theatre by bringing female-created work to the stage.

For their first performance, Project #1, they present the writing of Claire McCracken and Frances McCann as performed readings.

Flickering Seasons, an autobiographical piece by Frances McCann, is not only a vivid and moving story, but also a fascinating slice of social history, touching on her time in a poor school, Pakistan and a Pilton women’s homeless hostel.

Spliced between four extracts from McCann’s story are three very different mini-plays and one monologue by Claire McCracken.
