Divino Enoteca is part of the Crolla family owned Vittoria Group, along with ‘Vittoria on the Walk’, ‘Vittoria on the Bridge’, ‘A Taste of Italy’ and the King of Pizza restaurants in Edinburgh, ‘La Favorita’.

With 2 AA Rosettes, Divino Enoteca is a little more refined in its offering, not to say the food throughout the whole group is not fantastic, it is - La Favorita Review: https://goo.gl/zePVnj - it’s just a different dining experience at Divino Enoteca.

The menus at Divino Enoteca bleed Italy, the antipasto, the fresh pasta, the classic desserts and of course the wines!

Divino Enoteca is a fantastic restaurant in every way.

If you are looking for a Pizza go to La Favorita, if you are looking for a good Italian feast with friends and/or family, then go to Vittoria, if you are looking for the best late-night feed in town then go to A Taste of Italy, however, if you are looking for a romantic dinner, or something a little bit special, then Divino Enoteca will deliver.

Authentic taste of Italy: Joanna Blythman reviews Polentoni, Edinburgh

Review analysis
food

With one cook from Naples, the other from Padua, it’s not exactly either northern or southern Italian, although it takes it name from the insult that southerners use for northerners, "polentoni", which refers to northern Italians' fondness for this cornmeal dish.

In her latest family memoir, Dear Alfonso, Mary Contini (of Valvona & Crolla fame) recounts how another little shop on Easter Road was where her love-struck father-in-law, Carlo Contini, first dared to approach his future wife, the "bellissima" Olivia Crolla.

Its coddling warmth combined with its portfolio of possibilities – freshly cut panini with salumi and cheese spilling out of them, arancini, home-made pizza and focaccia, tartlets (dark chocolate, raspberry frangipane, mascarpone with fresh berries), and captivating cakes – orange and blueberry polenta, lemon almond chocolate, hazelnut pistachio caramel – begets contentment.

So you can depend on Polentoni for a sound breakfast or elevenses, and by lunchtime, on come the salads, the frittata, a pasta, a meat dish perhaps.

I say fresh because Polentoni offers dishes I’ve only ever seen in Italy, executed as they would be in Italy.

When we arrived, the restaurant was very busy with locals enjoying the tasty food – what a great sign for a damp Monday evening just before Christmas.

Just the usual  offering but very tasty and perfect with a chilled Cobra real starters I decided to have Annaj Pakura – Deep fried balls of gram flour, vegetables and spices £2.95 and Raymond had Voll Puri – lightly spiced chick peas and potatoes served with a Puri and tamarind sauce  £3.55- a popular snack in Calcutta it seems.

Voll Puri Raymond also enjoyed his starter and as it was the first time he had tried the dish, received instruction as to how locals (to Calcutta) eat them.

The dish is made with a local fruit – Shatkora which has a distinctive sour lime this had great flavours and the sharp lime flavour of the fruit cut through the hot sweet chilli sauce – the flavour was intense and like nothing he’d tried before.

Dessert selection All in all we had a lovely evening at this warm traditional local restaurant and if you are in the area it’s certainly worthwhile popping in for a meal.
