The very lovely and friendly staff at Southpour kindly invited me to go along to their Bloggers Brunch just prior to them opening the next day.

They serve up some fabulous brunches and their coffees are divine!

From the Brunch Plates Menu we have… From the Wee Snack Plates we have … My favourite, the Venison bridie with homemade ketchup.

Great ingredients, cooked well.

I like this place.

Newly opened on Newington Road, Southpour is the latest addition to Edinburgh’s brunch scene, and they also serve food and drinks throughout the day if you’re not one for getting up early at the weekend.

On Sunday, the Southpour team kindly invited me along to a blogger brunch so I could check out the new menu for myself.

The bacon was perfectly crispy and there was plenty of maple syrup drizzled over the top of the French toast.

If you’re looking for a chilled out place for brunch, then definitely head down to Southpour to try it out.

This area of Edinburgh is somewhat lacking in casual dining places for brunch so it’s nice to see something a bit different open up in Newington.

Southpour is a cool venue which serves up food, coffee, cocktails and more.

Brunch, lunch and dinner are all served from a menu which lists the proprietor’s ‘favourite things’.

There’s free WiFi, which makes it an excellent spot for daytime coffee drinking.

And, of course, daytime coffee drinking can swiftly turn into daytime cocktail drinking.

There’s no need to move an inch as Southpour provides an excellent boozy menu consisting of cocktails, craft beers, wine and more.

They’ve decorated the place in a kind of cheesy hipster way, with, for example, padlocks on a bit of fencing, in a tribute to the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris before they killed romance dead with a pair of wire cutters, and beer mats that allow you to vote Beatles or Stones.

I kicked off my cool down with an order of crab cakes (£6.50), and my other half went for the Scotch egg (£5.75).

Eventually, our oeuf redux arrived, and it was pretty good – a bright orange yolked egg clad in a rough (and slightly gristly in parts) nduja sausage, with a breadcrumbed pelt and a creamy celeriac remoulade on the side.

At least ONE of us was happy, as it seemed that the crab cakes had been patiently waiting on the pass while the chef perfected his Scotch egg game.

This pair of anaemic coasters were cold, and tasted of nothing more than potato and a bit of parsley.

location   staff   facilities

Southpour is the new go-to spot in Edinburgh's massively studenty neighbourhood, Newington.

With friendly staff and 'easy access' literally painted on the wall, it's definitely worth checking out.

The glass windows around the restaurant and the glass panes in the doors mean that a member of staff should see you approach if you require assistance with these doors.

I loved the clear signage to the toilets which Southpour call 'easy access' toilets.

The stars are dropped because again there are unfortunately two (not heavy) doors to navigate to get to these toilets.
