Edinburgh's Best Meat Feasts

Whether it’s a big juicy steak, a huge portion of pulled pork with apple sauce, some charcoal grilled marinated chicken, beef or lamb or even a good old burger, sometimes only a big chunk of cow/lamb/chicken/pig (sorry animals) will satisfy the carnivore in us.

Think gut busting portions of ribs, pulled pork, brisket, fried chicken, chicken wings, coleslaw and corn on the cob and lots of BBQ and hot sauces to lather it in.

Here you can choose your meat feast from a South African themed menu of steaks, burgers, beef frikkedelle (meatballs), BBQ spare ribs, chicken wings, homemade boerewors (South African spiral style sausages), pork belly, beef sosaties (spicy marinated skewered lamb) and Potjie (beef and veg stew).

Leith Chop House is an upscale steak place with pricey but top quality meats that’s been dry aged a minimum of 35 days and then cooked over an open flamed charcoal grill.

It’s a fun twist on dinner for a group, and at Korean BBQ the quality of the meat is top notch and there’s consistently excellent service.

A Turkish restaurant in Edinburgh has been crowned the 'Best Kebab House in Scotland' at a national awards ceremony in London.

The winners were revealed after a final round of judging by the British Kebab Awards judges including former Tory chairwoman Baroness Warsi, Children’s and Families’ Minister Nadhim Zahawi, Shadow Economic Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, Amjad Bashir MEP and Heart Radio presenter Lucy Horobin, who co-hosted the event with Capital Radio newsreader Tim John.

British Kebab Awards founder, Ibrahim Dogus, said: “The kebab is on the march to be Britain’s national dish and the excitement around this event grows every year.

The team behind the awards were keen to point out the contribution made by the kebab industry to the British economy; worth more than £2.8 billion a year, it supports around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry.

Interest has been so high over the last six years that the British Kebab Awards organisers will be launching the first National Kebab Week in 2019, set for February 11-17.

Verdo BBQ Restaurant - Edinburgh, Outside US | OpenTable

When we arrived the restaurant appeared packed with a big table and several other diners.

As it was very cold outside the table by the door still had their jackets on, despite a fan heater, and were keen to get the door closed behind us due to a draught.

The waiters appeared surprised to see us, however after checking our reservation asked us to wait 5 minutes to sort out a table.

The waiters tried initially to seat us on a small 1x1m 2 person table against a wall between the kitchen and the toilets.

When I pointed out this was too small for the 3 of us they offered to move a table next to the front door to where the other group of people had been.
