Voujon Review | Vegan Edinburgh

Review analysis
food   menu

As you can imagine, I was absolutely delighted when I was approached by Voujon’s PR team to try their offering, especially when they confirmed they had vegan options.

Voujon has an omnivore menu with a great selection of vegetarian dishes, many of which are vegan or can be made vegan on request.

I think Voujon should make more noise about their vegan offering, because both Mr B and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Voujon is clearly a really popular place with a good reputation, and their vegan offering is small yet solid.

Local people seem to really like this place, so it would be great if Voujon  clearly marked their delicious vegan options to get even more customers through the door.

Restaurant review: The Apartment Bistro | The Student

Perched on the western edge of the Bruntsfield Links, ‘The Apartment’ is a charming independent bistro, offering an intimate dining experience and appealing menu to suit all occasions and budgets.

The à la carte menu is full of creative combinations, including ‘fish of the day with black pudding, saffron mash and roasted apples’ and ‘pork belly with sautéed potatoes, cavelo nero, chestnut mushrooms and onion purée’  as well as traditional flat iron and rib eye steaks.

Daily specials are hand-written onto the menu, adding an intimate touch to the dining experience.

‘The Apartment’ also has private rooms, which are ideal for birthdays or special occasions as they offer an intimate space that doesn’t feel isolated from the convivial atmosphere that permeates the main restaurant.

Their chunky healthy skewers and other dinner dishes including steak and fish of the day can also be enjoyed from 12pm until 5pm, at this tempting lunchtime price.

Review: Voujon Edinburgh - a great local Indian restaurant. - Your ...

When we arrived, the restaurant was very busy with locals enjoying the tasty food – what a great sign for a damp Monday evening just before Christmas.

Just the usual  offering but very tasty and perfect with a chilled Cobra real starters I decided to have Annaj Pakura – Deep fried balls of gram flour, vegetables and spices £2.95 and Raymond had Voll Puri – lightly spiced chick peas and potatoes served with a Puri and tamarind sauce  £3.55- a popular snack in Calcutta it seems.

Voll Puri Raymond also enjoyed his starter and as it was the first time he had tried the dish, received instruction as to how locals (to Calcutta) eat them.

The dish is made with a local fruit – Shatkora which has a distinctive sour lime this had great flavours and the sharp lime flavour of the fruit cut through the hot sweet chilli sauce – the flavour was intense and like nothing he’d tried before.

Dessert selection All in all we had a lovely evening at this warm traditional local restaurant and if you are in the area it’s certainly worthwhile popping in for a meal.

Edinburgh's Voujon offers a fresh and inventive take on Indian cuisine, finds Lizzy Buchan After a few days of kale, thin soups and limp salad I was ready to throw in the towel and desperate for a meal which tastes of anything more than water.

So one Tuesday evening, my partner and I sought out Voujon, a Bengali and Indian restaurant serving up colourful Asian cuisine to lift the spirits on a cold and rainy night.

The small and friendly eatery is a little off the beaten track down Newington Road, which has the added benefit of not being filled with starving students, as can be the case in many Southside Indian restaurants.

Voujon does not quite have the culinary wow factor to push it in line with the Capital’s best Indian restaurants but the food is really fresh and inventive so I think its star is on the rise.

Specials such as a spciy lamb dish called Methi Gost or the Kathmandu Chicken Delicacy kebab will feature high on my wish list for a return visit.
