Great selection of food and an even greater selection of cakes available.

We had the Big breakfast, didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive, personally d was over cooked as I like my bacon just done, and eggs runny, I should have asked for it to be cooked to my preference , that aside we were very happy with the quality and service.

I’ve been a big fan of The Dogs for many a year so it was splendid news to hear that owner David Ramsden had secured another premises after a fair old time looking for a second site.

Of course, The Dogs empire once extended to four places before a retrenchment was followed by a period of consolidation in the main site.

This time, Ramsden’s choice has been to open a wine bar with the historically tricky location of Bread Street chosen for the venture.

I settled upon three dishes: the beetroot gazpacho, the duck heart tartare and the rabbit and black pudding terrine.

The wine list probably has some maturing to do as the place beds in but the food offering is bang on.

If you’re looking for a hearty Scottish breakfast in the Old Town of Edinburgh, I recommend that you visit Southern Cross Cafe.

I’m not a big fan of haggis, but I took one bite of it and it’s actually pretty good.

Southern Cross Cafe in Edinburgh is located in a really convenient location in the Old Town.

I love the homey vibe of the place, and most importantly, food was good.

It did great with the haggis, though I must confess I’m not a big fan.

The Scotsman Hotel | Hotels in Old Town, Edinburgh

No better place in Edinburgh to have a bath in a turret Once the headquarters of the Scotsman newspaper, this has been a luxury hotel since 2001.

Some of the rooms and suites have incredible views while the décor and general feel befits a boutique hotel sensibility fitted into an Edwardian- era newspaper building with baronial features.

It has character, it has a great location, North Bridge Brasserie is the main dining option while the hotel also offers a gym, spa and a seriously space-age swimming pool.
