TartanSpoon - REVIEW : Brunch at Element, Edinburgh

Review analysis
food   menu   drinks

The menu is uncomplicated with some fabulous choices from full Scottish Breakfasts to the Vegan Breakfast; from Eggs Benedict with optional added extras to just about anything you want on toast like hummus and halloumi to smashed avocado and chipotle flakes.

The Full Scottish Breakfast includes Crombie’s of Edinburgh Farmer Pork Sausage, Grilled Flat Mushroom, Haggis, Ramsay of Carluke Ayrshire Bacon & Black Pudding, Slow Roast Tomato, Potato Scone, Toast, Free Range Egg (the way you like).

Using some great local Scottish ingredients really gives this breakfast a great big thumbs up in my book.

The sausages are from Crombies Butchers on Broughton Street, the black pudding and bacon is from Ramsays of Carluke, and the bread for the toast is made fresh every day from a local bakery.

Overall, a lovely breakfast that left us very full.

food

The King’s Wark is a restaurant in Edinburgh located near the Leith.

This is a very Scottish place as they use only seasonal locally-sourced ingredients.

Every Sunday this place proposes a breakfast beginning at 11 am.

The menu is composed of the King’s Wark bigger breakfast, the full breakfast, the vegetarian breakfast, the fish dish, scrambled egg with bacon & tomato, French toast with bacon & maple syrup, spinach crêpe with bacon & mushrooms, spinach crêpe with brie & mushrooms and rib eye steak with fried egg.

Brunch Treacle (Edinburgh) - TopBrunch

Situated on Broughton Street, Treacle is a bar and kitchen serving breakfast and lunch for a very reasonable price.

The place is nicely decorated with exposed brick walls and a cool leather quilted bar.

The breakfast menu includes full Scottish breakfast, house batch sweet potato with black bean, quinoa hash browns, poached eggs & avocado, grilled cheese madame with pulled pork, Emmental & fried egg, eggs benedict with hollandaise and salmon, bacon, avocado or spinach and last but not least Belgian waffles with bacon & maple syrup or with blueberries, chia seeds & pistachio butter.

Aurora | Edinburgh Feasts

Review analysis
food   cleanliness   value

Newly opened in Leith, Aurora had only been open a couple of weeks when we visited but are clearly aware that their small shop front might mean people don’t realise they are there.

I couldn’t resist ordering the full breakfast – although I toyed with the idea of eggs Benedict and the shakshuka – whilst my friend chose eggs royale with a coffee.

My breakfast consisted of bacon, sausage, Stornaway black pudding, eggs, tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, sourdough and a smattering of rocket on top.

I had asked for my eggs fried but they came poached but I was actually so glad they did as this worked better with the rest of the food and oozed golden yolk.

Cost – this meal was complimentary but would have likely cost just under £20 for a full breakfast, eggs royale and a coffee.
