This weekend is time to don the over-sized Guinness hat and head to one of these venues to celebrate St Patrick's Day As well as the Six Nations final, this weekend is also St Patrick’s Day – the celebration of the primary patron saint of Ireland – which has been adopted by cities across the world.

This popular, hidden bar is celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a special Irish Ninja cocktail.

Boasting a great drinks list (including a huge selection of Irish whiskies) and a friendly atmosphere in great surroundings, it’s the perfect little bar to kick back and enjoy the celebrations.

Best of all the bar is taking part in the St Patrick’s Day Festival and will have a variety of events on throughout the weekend.

Irish owned and Irish run, you’re sure to enjoy the brilliant St Patrick’s Day festivities here with a great line up of top music acts and the Six Nations being shown live on the big screen.

Located in Edinburgh’s Old Town, Biddy’s is an Irish pub and restaurant on Grassmarket with a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere.

Serving hearty dishes made with locally sourced produce the restaurant prides itself on authentic homemade cuisine as well as their extensive selection of Irish whiskies.

Biddy’s may be an Irish pub and restaurant but their menu also features items such as grilled nachos with salsa, sour cream and guacamole, sweet potato and mixed bean burger and chilli con carne with boiled rice.

Let the restaurant chefs tempt you with the full Irish fry – an all day breakfast consisting of bacon, sausage, a potato farl (tattie scone, to Scots), mushrooms, tomato, white pudding, beans and a fried egg.

Biddy’s is on Grassmarket in the Old Town area of Edinburgh and is around fifteen minutes on foot from Waverley train station.

It was absolutely shocking – the worst of 700 main courses I’ve sampled since starting this gig in 1998 – and the Prime Minister of Ireland should sue Biddy Mulligans for having the sheer brass neck to call it Irish stew.

But we’d sat outside Biddy Mulligans, on the cobbled Grassmarket courtyard, to check out the full Edinburgh Festival atmosphere.

And you never know, the summer sun might have injected some heat into Jim’s chicken and a passing pigeon might have pooped into my Irish stew.

Biddy Mulligans does pub wine at restaurant prices (£13.95 for a bottle of red that would cost £2.99 from the nearest supermarket) and, talking of cash, we had the price of the starters taken off our bill – even though it was the mains that were particularly ghastly.

Address: 94-96 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2JR; Telephone: 0131 220 1246; Open: All day seven days; Wheelchair access: No; Bill for two (with wine): £34 Food: 0/5 - utterly appalling, not even a point for effort; Service: 3/5 - spare a thought for the lovely Sarah; Decor: 3/5 - standard outdoor furniture; Toilets: 1/5 - desperately need some TLC; Value: 0/5 - grudged every penny.

Biddy Mulligans Bar is named after the famous Irish folk song  "Biddy Mulligan the Pride of the Coombe" Biddy was a street vender who sold fresh fruit and fish from a stall on St Patrick's Street Corner in the Libertines area of Dublin.

She was a very well-known and much loved figure, partly for her witty character, but more so for her famous home cooking, especially her pots of Dublin Coddle and Irish stew.

She had a love for Irish folk and traditional music and despite having absolutely no singing abilities, had many "sessions" in her small home with few local musicians and many bottles of Guinness Stout.

This sums up what Biddy Mulligans is, an Irish Bar that offers the charm and authenticity of a real Dublin City bar, not just aesthetically but also (and more importantly) in how we interact with every customer.

Our aim is to be a bar that would hold its own in Temple Bar area of Dublin And that always leaves a lasting memory in every customer of a real Irish Experience.
