The third restaurant from the team behind Kebabish and nearby Zuhus, it seems to have no connection with Tony Singh’s previous restaurant of the same name other than ploughing a similar Indian tapas furrow.
As I say, the menu is focussed on tapas so is similar in spirit to much vaunted – although firmly not a favourite with me – Mother India, which is just around the corner.
Again, it will be interesting to see how comparisons go with Dishoom’s much lauded version of this latter dish.
It’s a favourite dish of mine, having sampled it at Mithas and Bindi, so it was great to find it on a menu once more.
So overall, it’s probably unfair to judge a tapas place on a solo visit in their first week, so I’ll make a note to come back with a crowd to give Roti another go, soon.

These consisted of a few different thali options along with some Indian fast-food fusion hybrids, which sounded unusual to say the least.
The last of the three of us went for one of the slightly more unusual options and picked a tikka burrito.
On the non-vegetarian tray, one was lamb, one was chicken and the last was vegetarian.
On the vegetarian version, the curries again were all different and came with naan and rice but had bhajis instead of the chicken.
If I wasn’t in a hurry Cost £26 for two thali, a burrito, a tea and coffee.
Roti (42 South Bridge, Edinburgh) | The List
food
Indian and Pakistani tapas with a heavy accent on the chargrill and BYOB options.
This new kid on the South Bridge block, with its Mumbai discoteque-chic décor, is already buzzing with diners drawn in by traditional dishes served tapas style.
Noisy groups of hungry nightlife lovers will revel in the extensive array of Pakistani and Indian delights thrown together on the menu in a haphazard fashion.
Dig into some crispy poppadums with accompanying traditional pickle tray, including a tongue-numbing green hari chutney, while mentally digesting the prospect of kebabs, pakora, samosa, mini lamb or chicken karahis, butter chickens and dhals.
Standout dishes include a slow-cooked lamb Punjabi saag gosht and a creamy black dhal.
