Lovers of fine Indian cuisine should look no further than Ginger Restaurant.

The menu focuses on the Biryani and Tandoori dishes, featuring such classics as lamb, chicken and king prawn curries, but their speciality the Mixed Grilled Platter is an exquisitely spicy delight, consisting of chef choices of barbeque that creates a delicious experience for the taste buds.

Seafood options of prawns, be they regular of king sized, come swimming in Korma, Madaras or Karai sauce but the special of the sea is the delectable Macha Ko Jhol, a dish of diced pangasius fish prepared in a medium sauce with rich coconut milk, making it both a tameable and exotic dish.

If the kids don’t fancy something spicy their own set menu offers more familiar food such as chicken nuggets and fish fingers, but if they do feel like venturing out their palates there is the mild Ginger Delight, a small portion of creamy chicken korma or tasty chicken tikka masala with rice or chips.

Ideally placed, Ginger Restaurant finds itself next to the National Museum of Scotland, Holyrood Park and a short walk from Edinburgh Castle, making it the perfect spot for a filling lunch or a delicious dinner after a day of absorbing Scottish culture.

Glasgow's newest sushi restaurant is a sociable place that'll teach you a thing or two about Japanese cuisine, writes Ray Philp AFTER a meal at Pickled Ginger, Glasgow’s newest sushi restaurant, you learn a few things about table manners in Japan.

There’s an odd – but not uncommon – tension between the observance of sushi etiquette and the restaurant’s clubby interior, a wash of pale maple and glowing reddish lanterns amid thick black and orange lines.

Sushi, I find, takes a bit of concentration to enjoy properly – even once you remove chopsticks from the equation, you really need to engage with it a bit, rather than just slopping it down the hatch with a scoop of wasabi paste.

Despite the plethora of options elsewhere on the menu, Pickled Ginger only does two desserts – we opted for the chocolate mochi, a “rich chocolate ganache surrounded by mochi rice cake” (£3.95).
