Saboteur is a sister restaurant to Ting Thai Caravan which is only a couple of doors along on Teviot Place.

The concept of the place is not too different to Ting Thai and the menu has a very similar style and price point, but with a focus on Vietnamese rather than Thai food.

I opted for the prawn bao buns (£6 for two) and a side of satay chicken (£4.60).

The bao buns were excellent – massive prawns which would make Stewart Lee proud and a really super fresh and spicy tamarind chilli sauce.

Dan quickly settled upon the king prawn bao buns with a side of chicken satay while I went for the seafood pho with a side of salt and chilli tofu.

This consists of a range of dishes grouped by ingredients / cooking style, in the form of: rice noodles; curry and stir fries; bao buns; and salads, as well accompanying small boxes and side dishes, some of which can also be chosen as starters.

Simple ingredients brought together to form a great compliment of flavours.is a dish that also arrives in a cardboard box, this time encasing soft balls of grilled fish flesh, dressed in a sauce comprised of tomato, tamarind, coriander, and chilli, which really sets off the tasty seafood with subtle heat married with fruity-sourness and clean, grassy-freshness.

Wait until I turn my attention to the mains...Southeast Asian cuisine regularly features seafood as an ingredient, andcertainly does not shy away from this, I am delighted to say.transpired to be a hearty bowl of rice noodle- adorned broth, combined with tasty prawns, squid, and fish-balls, augmented with vegetables and infused with a sweet-spicy-tangy sauce known as, which also gives the pho a subtle pink colour.

This was a bowl as freshly flavoured as it was filling.had at its centre a beautifully fried fillet of sea bass accompanied by a fabulous fusion of sweet pineapple, sour tamarind paste, spicy chilli, fruity tomato, fragrant Thai basil, all steeped in a tangy dressing that combined umami-laden fish sauce with malty palm sugar.

Orderand what arrives is a steaming bowl of sweet-savoury stock/soy sauce-based broth that laps around fantastically tender chunks of pork belly and crisply-fried oblongs of marinated tofu, contrasted by slices of pak choi.hinted at the cuisine of Vietnam's Thai neighbour in the form a luxuriantly rich and beautifully flavoursome red curry sauce, which imparted the tastes of chilli, coconut and lime to delicious portions of beef and vegetables.

Sister restaurant to the ever popular Ting Thai Caravan and only a few doors up the road, Saboteur is set to follow in their footsteps – only in a Vietnamese fashion.

I opted for the Ca’Phi Le, which was a sea bass dish, with a side of roti.

On the other side of the table, the curry was generous.

This roasted duck curry consisted of duck, coconut milk, chilli, basil, lychee, tomatoes and peppers.

The side of yellow rice, cooked through with coconut, herbs and spices finished it off nicely.

Saboteur is great, but it's no competition for its sister restaurant, Ting Thai Caravan, says Gaby Soutar They say that celebs like Kate Moss, Snoopy and the Queen retain their public appeal since they generally remain silent and enigmatic.

This new Vietnamese restaurant – owned by Malcolm Innes, the restaurateur behind Ting Thai Caravan, The Outsider and pizza joint Wildmanwood – has a similar approach to communication.

But, no, according to the waitress, it’s so-called because the owner thought his newest restaurant might sabotage the success of his other place, Ting Thai Caravan, just a few doors along at 8-9 Teviot Place.

However, they were lifted by an amazing sauce, which reminded me of the one that comes with my favourite kai look-keur son-in-law deep fried egg at Ting Thai Caravan.

The chicken pho (£6.50) here is wholesome and soothing – Vietnamese penicillin, with a golden stock, chook breast, rice noodles, bean sprouts, cherry tomatoes, coriander and some sweet sauce that tasted a bit like hoisin.

Ting Saboteur, the new restaurant by owners of Ting Thai Caravan opened Ting Saboteur, the new restaurant by owners of Ting Thai Caravan, opened a few doors down from them at the end of summer offering a Vietnamese twist on the successful formula of its sister.

We went straight to the Small Box & Sides section of the menu and ordered Banh Phong Tom (Vietnamese prawn crackers with chilli jam), £2.60, Ga Sa Te (grilled chicken skewers with ajard and peanut sauce), £4.40, and Goi Cuon (fresh summer rolls with prawn and vermicelli noodles), £4.40.

The spring rolls were also lovely, light and fresh but the chicken skewers bowled us over; the mixture of sharp vinegar in the ajard mixed with deep, delicious nuts, chilli and perfectly cooked chicken.

The broth light and fragrant, every mouthful was full of unctuous meat, slippery noodles and crunchy veg with a hint of chilli.

Saboteur is unpretentious, serves strikingly good street food with an exciting menu and is roomier than its sister restaurant.
