A review of Wahaca, City Centre - Edinburgh Reviews

Wahaca is just between Princess Street and St Andrews Square, a great location for the two-floor building, and a perfect pit stop for a day out.

The food is traditional Mexican but on the posh side; no foil wrapped burritos here.

I’m a big fan of Mexican food and had only heard great things about this restaurant.

I don’t think the waiter was slow, I don’t think Wahaca was understaffed, but we did have a wait and I suspect the larger tables came first.

The street food is essentially Mexican tapas and I suspect the best value for money.

I’ve had many a Friday morning meeting with clients at The Pantry in Stockbridge and have longingly looked on at other tables enjoying their breakfast, whilst I sipped my coffee feeling slightly tortured by all the wonderful smells wafting under my nose.

It was another one of our family outings with the small menace and granny both on tow.

With eyes bigger than my stomach having been to the gym earlier in the morning, I felt I could top up the toastie with a nice salad on the side.

My husband always spots the seafood on a menu and lunch at The Pantry was no exception.

We certainly sampled a variety of dishes and everyone seemed content when the plates were taken away, but there was still enough room for a sweet treat over coffee.

I asked for some chips on the side of my macaroni, as if previous trips to The Pantry had taught me anything, it’s that it serves truly amazing proper chips that are fat and chunky and everything a chip should be.

A side salad and chips accompanied this dish – he shares my view on how great they are.

We were too full for anything sweet, but The Pantry has a great range of cakes and treats (supplied by Love Crumbs), and a good range of herbal teas.

I’m pretty sure I’ve sold The Pantry to you, so all you need to do now is go along there yourselves and enjoy the delicious fare.

10 Toddler-Friendly Cafes/Restaurants in Edinburgh - Dickins

These places don’t necessary all have kids’ menus, but they have play areas, toys, high chairs and friendly staff who know the chaos under 5s can bring with them.

Plus they have a small play area with toys, and if your toddler allows, you could also have a wee browse in the shop… With plenty of toys and a lovely play zone your toddler will keep busy for a good while at Hemma (“at home” in Swedish) whilst you enjoy a drink, cake or some hot food.

The food is fresh, the coffee is great, the staff is friendly and they have a great play area with lots of toys for children.

Another Stockbridge gem where you can have bite to eat, a delicious cup of coffee or a freshly made smoothie – all while your toddler is busy exploring the play area and toys in the back room.

There is a soft play area, an indoor climbing frame, a retro video games machine, a buggy park, baby changing room and a kids menu with something for every taste.

The Pantry Stockbridge - An Edinburgh with Kids review

Brunch is my new alternative form of a dinner date.

It’s food that I’m guaranteed to enjoy, it’s unusual to involve lots of booze so I can drive, and I adore good coffee.

I absolutely adore The Pantry in Stockbridge for all these reasons: A recent addition to The Pantry menu is the new brunch ‘picky plate.’

The first time I went to The Pantry was on maternity leave with my beautiful friend Jen.

Lots of brunch places in Edinburgh offer a small selection of toys but it’s rare to find something that occupies them for a considerable length of time – combined with the other afore mentioned benefits!

Brunch in Edinburgh

Sunday afternoon in Edinburgh isn’t complete with a wander and then a relaxing (or hangover treatment) brunch.

Prepare to get very hungry with 5 of my favourite spots for brunch in Edinburgh.

Quirky surroundings and a regularly changing brunch menu with staples such as full breakfast, waffles and Benedicts, they also do smashed avocado plates – try my favourite Sunshine on Stockbridge, olive oil toast with guacamole, roasted tomatoes, grilled pepper, poached eggs and fresh chili.

Their brunch menu is huge (from benedicts, croques, baked eggs, or a bit of toast and jam) and as everything is so tasty I always find it very hard to choose.

Work off your brunch with a wander up to the Edinburgh Botanical Garden.
