Food is available from Wednesday to Sunday (Please see Kitchen Opening Hours on the left), booking a table is highly recommended to avoid disappointment .

We can provide a menu to suit all occasions or cater for any private parties – please pop in or ring through to discuss your requirements.

Our food is prepared and presented by James Dillon,  former Head Chef of Howies and La Garrigue.

All of James’ dishes are homemade using fresh produce from local suppliers such as Armstrongs Fishmongers and George Bower Butcher and Game Dealer.

The menu is updated weekly and the specials board daily to accommodate the seasonal nature of sourcing fresh produce.

Named after the famous book The Antiquary by Sir Walter Scott the Antiquary Bar is a basement bar situated in St Stephen Street for around 35 years.

Although the shops have changed over the years St Stephen Street still retains a unique character and has been a popular back drop for a few TV and Movie productions.

At the back of the Antiquary in the cellar area there are the remains of an old bakery from the nineteenth century and apparently there was a great fire in the Street which destroyed half of the buildings and sadly took a few lives.

Through the nineties and up to today the bar is still popular with students but the essential criteria for all the years is the fact that the Antiquary is a popular bar for all and everyone feels welcome, from the locals of all ages through to tourists visiting the area.

Twenty years ago the Antiquary was the first in the area to offer an all-in breakfast and is still famous for it today.

The interior is clad in the soft tones of polished wood punctuated by oil paintings and the bar is decked with brass pumps.

They have added a few modern touches, such as the flat screen TV which shows most major sporting events, but thankfully its traditional charm has been retained.

This lovely bar has a loyal local clientele, but is also very popular with tourists.
