In theme with the name there are many bells around the top of the long, low bar and hanging from wooden beams.
Tables and chairs are set outside the front of the pub under hanging baskets and upstairs is the New Bell Restaurant which, on the night we were there, was enticing us up with the smell of steak!
I went to The Old Bell almost nightly to read books and enjoy a good pint.
I don't know if this place still working but I worked in the kitchen of the New Bell restaurant five years ago and it was a really good and famous restaurant.
The Old Bell was really good too (downstairs).

Title: Good choice - in case there are no options Nice pub with lot of boring people inside.
The Bell was my local for 8 years, standing apart from those around it due to its well poured ales, excellent staff and cracking atmosphere.
Of all the traditional pubs in Edinburgh, it has consistently delivered quality for years and now that the smoking ban has taken effect, the only criticism that could be leveled at The Old Bell has been negated.
Nice pub where lassies can sit and have a drink alone without the worry of smelly old men hassling them.
A nice old style pub with a relaxed atmosphere and some decent beer.
