Kalpna, St Patrick Square Review | Vegan Edinburgh

Review analysis
food

Kalpna has long been one of my favourite places to eat in the city.

A lot of the South Indian Cuisine is vegan (as always, double-check before ordering), but for me, the vegan thali is an absolute must.

I always go for the vegan thali raj bhog, of course.

Well: I love the thali here because 1) it looks absolutely gorgeous but 2) it changes up from time to time so you never get the exact same meal twice.

Kalpna is still one of my favourite places restaurants in Edinburgh.

The Mosque Kitchen Review | Vegan Edinburgh

Review analysis
food   value

The Mosque Kitchen has been one of my favourite foodie haunts in Edinburgh for a long time – even before I became vegan.

With gorgeous curries served in big hearty portions for less than a fiver a pop, this is a brilliant place to get a satisfying meal on the cheap.

These include: Unfortunately the bread is still made with butter, so not safe for vegans, but if you’re like me a curry with rice will be plenty for a satisfying meal.

Mr B likes the chana masala because it’s full of protein and a really satisfying meal, but I prefer the mixed veg curry as the sauce is a bit more to my taste.

With those prices, you can’t beat the Mosque Kitchen for a satisfying meal.

No.1 The Grange | Vegan Edinburgh

Review analysis
food

For being primarily a pub, No.1 The Grange has a fairly adventurous menu with a few options for vegans clearly marked.

No.1 The Grange has a few options for vegans, encompassing a wide range of cuisines from all over the globe.

At the time of writing, these are: My dining companion Lucie eyed the caramelised banana dessert right off the bat, so we took in the first two courses mindfully so we could leave room for something sweet at the end!

It was a nice portion to start the meal, and the hummus had a nice citrus flavour that made it very moreish.

She also really loved her mushroom udon noodles that followed, which had a lovely golden colour thanks to a nice addition of turmeric.

No 1 The Grange - Pubs in Edinburgh - The Skinny

Located where you might expect, in an area of Edinburgh which has become a mini-hub of sorts for well equipped, reasonably priced gastro pubs, No 1 The Grange in Edinburgh’s Southside doesn’t feel out of place in this regard.

If you’re into your craft beer, you’ll not be disappointed, with a hefty selection of well-known small batch breweries on offer as well as some more off-the-wall options you may not have heard off.

The wine list is healthy, as is the spirit selection and a small but imaginative cocktail list is also offered.

Regular live music and pub quizzes offer some entertainment but even without this, the atmosphere is nice and the staff are pleasant and knowledgeable.

In short, The Grange is a nice, unpretentious and well-equipped pub, and an excellent place to spend your time.
