Located on Home Street in Tollcross, The Everest Nepalese and Indian Restaurant is a simply decorated, family-run restaurant.

The Everest Restaurant offers regional Nepalese dishes as well as a range of familiar Indian and Bangladeshi dishes.

Nepalese herbs and spices are used in conjunction with local, Scottish produce to create dishes such as the lukla lamb – an eastern Nepalese recipe featuring long slices of lamb which are stuffed with mince and cooked in onion, ginger, garlic, tomato and the chef’s special spices.

The kitchen aims for a home-style taste and the Nepalese dishes tend to be more aromatic than fiery.

Nepali cuisine is a fusion of Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and other influences, and at The Everest on Home Street in the Old Town, they are serving the whole range.

Edinburgh is a long way from Kathmandu – though the hills and weather might make some Nepalis feel at home – but you can get a true taste of the Himalayas at The Everest.

With a range of curries, starters and side dishes available at The Everest in Edinburgh’s Old Town, it can be hard to decide where to start.

A few naans, of course, on the side, and you have yourself a meal to feed a whole Gurkha regiment.

We’ve run out of Nepal-ling jokes now, but if you get yourself down to Home Street in the Old Town, we promise they’ll happily provide you with a few more: that last one was abominable.

The Killer Restaurant | Restaurants in Marchmont, Edinburgh

The literal offspring of the Kismot restaurant across town (Kismot remains a mom and pop operation while their kids have the run of this place), The Killer is named after its most famous menu item: The Killer Curry, a scorchingly hot dish you have to sign a disclaimer to eat.

The rest of the menu follows suit, with sections to appeal to the thrill-seeking diner: you'll find your mains filed under The Healthiest, The Craziest and The Hottest, while even the more demure Starters menu features Roulette Pakora.
