Jeelie Piece

we are an independent café and community art space in tollcross, edinburgh run by mother and daughter vivian and kate macdonald.

we reckon scotland’s fields and seas yield some of the best ingredients in the world, which is why we always use seasonal local produce from farms we know and producers we love.

and scotland has more to offer than just amazing food – that’s where we come in.

we want to introduce you to some fantastic original art and music from local artists, giving them a platform for their work and giving you the opportunity to support them.

Cafes in Edinburgh - Jeelie Piece - The Skinny

This family-run venture, led by mother and daughter Vivian and Kate Macdonald, has all the makings of a lovely local coffee shop – nae-fuss soups and sandwiches, delicious hot options, scrumptious cakes and of course, lovingly-prepared bevvies.

The thing that makes this place special, however, is what it brings to the local community.

As well as sourcing all their ingredients from local farms and producers, the cafe also functions as a performance space for musicians and artists.

It's the type of place where you might pop in to get out of the rain, but could easily spend the afternoon distracted by the board games, books and magazines on offer.

Better still, it's only a stone's throw away from the King's Theatre and Cameo Cinema, so makes for the perfect place to grab a light pre-show meal.

Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic grilled cheese sandwich for gooey, comforting deliciousness.

Whether you prefer an old school cheese toastie or a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich, there are plenty of places in Edinburgh to get your melted cheese fix.

#piggingout Meltmongers is Edinburgh’s first dedicated grilled cheese cafe and their menu is everything you’ve dreamed of and more.

Served on freshly baked sourdough bread, you can choose from a range of different cheeses and toppings to create the perfect sandwich, which is then grilled for you until molten and delicious.

Cairngorm Coffee Co are mainly known for two things: amazing coffee and amazing grilled cheese sandwiches.
