The decor is bright and vibrant with retro Bollywood posters, garishly colored chairs, and huge tangerine letters (T.U.K) suspended in the three large windows.

The food is similarly exuberant with a selection of tapas style dishes to choose from, some mildly and delicately spiced, others fiery and rich.

The also do a great lamb curry and two western offerings (t-bone steak and a mixed grill) for those not in the mood for mix and match dishes.

You’ll be able to choose a roadside plate such as Bengali fish cakes with slaw and mint sauce, roadside bhaji’s made with sliced onions and kale, or a pakora platter made with assorted deep fried vegetables; tuck into two curries like butter paneer cooked in a creamy sauce with ground almonds, lamb lasooni cooked with whole cloves of garlic, or aloo gobi made with baby potato and cauliflower; all served with a side such as rice or naan and poppadoms, you’ll be sure to enjoy this fabulous feast for two!

Tuk Tuk Indian Street Food 1 Leven Street, Edinburgh (0131-228 3322) How much?

Daily, while the traffic lights were red, I peered into the window from my vantage point of the advanced stop box.

The Indian street food menu features tapas-sized dishes, most of which are around the fiver mark.

In actuality, this rolled-up roti contained a lipstick red but rather bland spread of chickpeas, petit pois and roasted peppers.

My cakey bricks were squelchy, sticky and appropriately sweet – the green ones tasted of cardamom, and the snowy versions were white chocolate and ricotta-ish.
