Bread Meats Bread | Eat Local. Eat Fresh. Glasgow. Award Winning Burgers Sandwiches Poutine

"The classic burger looked good... Vibrant colours that popped from the bun and a heap of deliciously near-liquidised American cheese brought back memories of devouring my first Shake Shack burger in New York City... Bread Meats Bread will be feeding hungry Glaswegians for years to come."

James vs Burger › I love Bread Meats Bread, this should come as no surprise to you, I’m sure!

Glasgow Food Geek › "When you bite into it for the first time is like being hit with a burger spade of loveliness.

Layers of sauce, burger and cheese that whack you over the heat and melt in your mouth......

Naturally, given that quality, Bread Meats Bread was buzzing on a Thursday lunchtime, its tables crammed with folk greedily hoovering up burgers, dogs and meaty BBQ sandwiches from enamelled plates, as Radiohead were almost drowned out by the sizzling of the hotplates in the open kitchen.

Bread Meats Bread, Lothian Road Review | Vegan Edinburgh

If you’re searching for a vegan burger fix in Edinburgh’s West End, look no further than Bread Meats Bread.

This popular burger joint has only been on Lothian Road for a year or two, but it’s already built up a stellar reputation with local omnivores and vegans alike.

Bread Meats Bread has lots of vegan “burgers” plus even more that can be made vegan on request.

Despite being a traditional burger place, they have so much choice for vegans and it is all absolutely devine.

Sadly there was no vegan cheese left on our last visit, but they were happy to do a burger for him without it.

This is not a fast food joint, but rather a love note to the joyous conjunction of bread and meat.

They have been lavished with awards by a grateful clientele happy to take their time over some seriously good food.

So they slip smoky Italian Scamorza cheese into your bacon burger along with bone marrow butter.

"Red label" burgers feature Calabrese fiery, fatty chilli sausage, 'Nduja, which would seem to be a restaurant fashion at the moment.

But BMB no doubt knows how to use just a lick of it to add smoky kick to a burger, or tamed in the 'Nduja mayo that moistens a "red label" burger on a supposedly Caribbean theme (candied bacon/caramelised sweet fries/crispy fried onions).

Kimchi, another sine qua non of fashion victim restaurants stamps its piquant footprint all over the menu, in the Kim Yong Burger, the KimCheese burger, the Bacon Kimchi "poutine" (the latter a grizzly Quebecois assembly of chips, cheese, and brown gravy).

Brazenly, the "Raspoutine" – chips, fresh cheese curds, chopped bacon, grated cheddar, beefy gravy – is marketed as "the healer".

staff   food   busyness

Already hugely popular in Glasgow, Bread Meats Bread is ready to take Edinburgh by storm, finds Gaby Soutar “Oh no, THIS isn’t busy”, says our waiter at the new branch of Bread Meats Bread (not to be confused with the unrelated Burger Meats Bun in Forth Street).

We felt wild when ordering the Edinburgh equivalent of their Glasgow diner’s signature Wolf of St Vincent Street burger.

Housed in a perfectly domed toasted brioche bun and skewered through the top with a wooden pick like a tent pole propping up an oversized marquee was a faintly pink chargrilled inch-thick patty, a mound of soft and sweet pulled pork slathered in barbecue sauce, a couple of melting blankets of orange cheese, squares of bacon, crunchy trimmings of onion and a slick of spicy nduja mayo.

I suppose our BBQ pulled lamb (£8) number was the sophisticate’s option, with sugary tart pomegranate glazed shredded lamb and roasted pepper mayo, as well as crispy fried onions, all of which contrasted with a layer of feral crumbled feta on the inner bottom of the bun.

While the bacon chips (£4) was another ridiculous splurge, as it featured a pile of frites that had been tarred and feathered by a huge drift of “spicy beefy mayo” and three handfuls of postage-stamp sized pieces of crispy bacon.
