Bonnie Burrito

At Bonnie Burrito, we aim to provide our hungry customers with all the best of Mexican food with a distinctively Scottish twist by adding the likes of our famous ‘Irn-Bru pulled pork’ or mouth-watering haggis to Mexican classics.

Bonnie Burrito began as a Mexican street food van, creatively combining Mexican food with the delights of Scotland.

Due to the popularity of the van, we are now expanding and have opened our first takeaway in August 2016 and are expanding.

It surprised me then, when one day he came up to me and said: “Can we go to Bonnie Burrito?”

If you want to go vegan at Bonnie Burrito, select the vegetarian haggis as your filling.

I ordered the veggie haggis burrito with salsa, guacamole and (on Mr B’s recommendation) the smoky chipotle sauce.

For me, it wasn’t the best burrito I have tried in the city, but for Mr B it’s a firm favourite.

I think it’s because the sauce has a sweet smoky taste, and Mr B really digs that BBQ flavour.

ambience   food   staff

Keen to try as much as I could, I chose a loaded burrito which allowed me to pick two main fillings (chicken and spicy pulled pork in my case), in addition to a plethora of vegetables and salsa.

I know this casual presentation is big at the moment, but for me, it feels too much like fast food and for the price, it really should not.

The staff had used a kind of burrito magic, whereby all components of the burrito were present in every bite.

Burritos are fat, messy food meant only for the biggest tex-mex lovers.

As I left, I felt satisfied with my meal, but also made a mental note that if I came back, I would get take away so I could sit in the meadows and not feel weirdly angry about my basket food… That would really be a true student style way to enjoy it.
