The Herringbone - new bar and restaurant offers warm welcome in ...

The Herringbone, with it’s wood and stone interior, choice of cocktails and wines, and interesting menu is a great local.

My friend had the rather delicious Lady of the night, a bright and citrussy blend Cointreau cocktail given an interesting visual twist by the inclusion of charcoal.

My friend talked me through some of the other dishes: it was my first time but not hers.

We finished with the same pudding: black currant and licorice delice.

The staff were friendly and personable, the vibe jolly, the room cosy and the food both interesting and satisfying.

A popular bar and bistro offering good eating and drinking in bright, comfortable surroundings.

While retaining some of the DNA of its North Berwick sister, Herringbone has been making its own statement in Edinburgh since opening in May 2017.

In addition to a good selection of wines, cocktails and beers it offers fine examples of contemporary, casual dining.

And then there’s the gin: the current popularity of everything gin is reflected in an extensive menu, surely another reason why Herringbone is already proving to be a very welcome addition to a corner of the city which has a dearth of quality dining and drinking options.

Whichever, you could probably find something to satisfy at this new restaurant, which has its original three-year-old eatery in North Berwick.

We eyed up a black lab called Ben, who was adding to the relaxed front-room vibe and not pestering anyone for scraps.

The confit pork belly (£10.95) was slightly under-seasoned but not bad, with a big old coaster of meat and an isosceles of crackling on the side.

The herbal element was pleasant enough, and it came with strawberries, passion fruit and lots of lemon curd (enough to plaster about 14 scones).

Anyway, the food isn’t bad here, but I liked it more when I visited their original North Berwick branch three years ago (Food Score: 8/10).

Having flung open their doors in May of this year, Herringbone Edinburgh have since created a buzz amongst the city’s foodies thanks to their contemporary and simplistic Scottish cooking, Scandi-style space and gin-heavy drinks list.

Following in the footsteps of their popular North Berwick sister restaurant, this plush new haunt is the ideal spot to go should you fancy a delicious dinner date in the glass fronted, light flooded restaurant, or a local bevvy in the swish and stylish bar.

Nestled in the heart of Goldenacre, just minutes from the Botanic Gardens and a short stroll to the bright lights of neighbouring Stockbridge, Herringbone is perfectly placed for a bite to eat after an afternoon spent meandering or a precursor to a night out in the capital!

Today’s deal is the perfect excuse to grab your buddies and enjoy a catch up over scrumptious sharing boards for up to four.

Washed down with a glass of wine each, these exclusively curated sharing boards are ideal for nibbling on, loaded with the finest meats, veg or fish and accompanied by artisan bread and oil – yum!
