TartanSpoon - A Review of Pizza Express, Queensferry Street

The place isn’t the largest Pizza Express I’ve seen but it’s open and the large windows at the back flood the space with light.

This is a sharing portion of what is essentially warm dough rolled into balls and baked then served with a trio of dips: pesto, garlic butter and pestorissa, a harissa spiced tomato dip.

Three baked, creamy risotto balls filled with hot, Nduja sausage and mozzarella cheese served with pesto.

This promised soft pasta filled with spinach & ricotta, baked with passata, béchamel, mozzarella, garlic oil and Gran Milano cheese.

For pizza we tried out the Campana Pizza on a Romano (thin) base (£14.15) – Crumbled pork & fennel sausage, friarielli, tomato, garlic oil and mozzarella, finished with Gran Milano cheese and parsley.

Pizza Express used to be one of my favourites, but since I turned vegan I generally stayed away because I was never sure if I would be catered for.

As you can imagine, Pizza Express’ introduction of vegan mozzarella alternative in their menu was great news as it opened up a huge range of options on the menu that had been out-of-bounds for quite some time.

Full of excitement and with two very hungry bellies, Mr B and I popped along to their restaurant on The Shore to discover Pizza Express’ new vegan options.

The great news is that there are lots of options at Pizza Express, just tell your server that you’re vegan and they’ll see you right.

Obviously, this new addition to the menu is not only great news for Edinburgh vegans, but for everyone across the UK with a local Pizza Express.

This visit included a person who uses: Wheelchair Helpful staff and a layout which did not require furniture to be moved to accomodate my wheelchair surprised the pessimist in me who has grown weary of these barriers!

Staff went out of their way to deal with my allergies with no fuss and I had zero complaints of the whole experience.

The waiting staff were able to point out the current offers and deals which is always good and the restaurant was busy but staff were unflustered by this which is a talent in itself!

The loo was clean and a good size, I had no issue turning or transferring, I was unsure of its location within the building but staff were happy to direct me.

Staff were very efficient which is a huge plus!
