The West End of Edinburgh and the East End of Edinburgh are so similar in that they have an abundance of restaurants, bars and hotels; have undergone a massive regeneration and have a close relationship with the Edinburgh Trams.
The Huxley is part of The Rutland Hotel and neighbours to Kyloe Steak restaurant, Edinburgh Gin Distillery and Head & Tales Gin Emporium.
Being a hotel restaurant, your first thoughts are that the food would be fair to good as they probably cater more for the tourist than the local.
The choice of Egg on Toast with Smoked Salmon (£5 for the egg on toast with a £2.50 supplement for the salmon) really took my fancy but we settled on Eggs Benedict (£8) and French Toast with bacon and maple syrup (£6).
The Eggs Benedict came with toasted English muffin, thick ham, perfectly poached eggs and a generous helping of hollandaise sauce.

Welcome to Edinburgh’s first gourmet steak restaurant.
The name Kyloe, an old Scots word for Highland beef cattle, was chosen for the restaurant as it represents the strength and versatility of Scottish beef produce.
We use cuts from pedigree Aberdeen Angus – supplied by some of Scotland’s top farms and butchers – to bring our customers the best possible steak experience.
Our first floor restaurant can be found in The Rutland Hotel at Edinburgh’s West End and boasts enviable views of Edinburgh Castle.

Inventive American-inspired bar and restaurant serving pancakes and blueberries, lobster rolls, hotdogs and burgers This pub at the West End of Princes Street tends to fill up with tourists and hotel guests by day, and city suits from nearby offices by night.
There’s a strong taste of America on the menu, where they serve pancakes and blueberries, soft shell crab sandwiches with avocado and chipotle, lobster rolls, Sloppy Joes, and their signature hot dogs - which can be ordered naked, with chilli cheese, or Spanish (with manchego, smoked paprika and chipotle mayo).
They do burgers too (from £7.50 with hand cut chips), and a side order of their ‘frickles’ (fried pickles) and Spanish chillis with a hot sauce dip – heats things up more than a traditional couple of slices of limp gherkin ever could.
Catering to the straight-from-the-office crowd, there’s a long list of bar snacks on offer as well as full main courses.
Haggis bhajis, salt and pepper squid, sole goujons or chicken wings with blue cheese dip help to soak up some of the alcohol and come in around £5-£6.
