Le Marché Français (9a West Maitland Street, Edinburgh) | The List

Review analysis
food

Operating since 1998, Le Marché Français has a bit of everything for the keen Francophile – bakery, deli, shop and café.

Step out of Haymarket station, cross the road and enter the bright red frontage of Le Marché Français into your friendly neighbourhood bakery, deli, shop and café all in one.

Operating since 1998, Le Marché has a bit of everything for the keen Francophile.

While service is friendly, the venue has a slightly worn-in feeling and would benefit from a general refresh.

Riverlife (84 Dalry Road, Edinburgh) | The List

Review analysis
food

First opened in 2012 Riverlife offers an eclectic range of French Caribbean dishes.

A new opening in 2012 in the less fashionable culinary end of town, Riverlife brings to the Edinburgh market its singular blend of French and Caribbean cooking.

The regular à la carte selection is more French-flavoured, with rack of lamb, confit duck leg and chicken supreme served alongside a signature rustic butterbean cassoulet.

On the first Sunday of every month or by arrangement for groups if booked ten days in advance, however, the Caribbean buffet features dishes like chicken liver Malibu, goat and vegetable curry and a spicy jerk chicken leg.

The Jolly Botanist | Bars and pubs in West End, Edinburgh

A 2015 opening, with gimmicky ‘distressed Victoriana’ décor, this café-cocktail bar stocks over 60 brands of gin (its chosen speciality) and the staff do actually know what they’re talking about.

It offers a high-class pub grub menu, windows opening wide to the street and those excellent gins; it’s a great place for a refreshing summer G&T.
