Adventurous Indian fusion from Horn Please - 5pm Food & Dining Blog

Their menu is made up of adventurous takes on Indian fusion – example dishes are spinach curry, ricotta cheese and serrano ham lasagna and gulab jamun cheesecake – served in tapas style portions.

We currently have an excellent Big Deal for Horn Please – £20 for four tapas with two desserts to share between two people – so at the blog we decided it was the ideal opportunity to visit the restaurant.

While my dining companion plumped for the curd, cheese and vegetable uttapam (uttapam is kind of like an indian savoury pancake made with flour and white lentils, as our waitress helpfully explained).

My companion choose an interesting Indian/Italian fusion option – spinach curry, ricotta cheese and serrano ham lasagna.

The dessert section of the menu was as adventurous, and it was difficult to know what creation we were most curious to see – the gulab jamun cheesecake, the green cardamom pannacotta with grilled mango and white chocolate rabdi, the chocolate cream with spiced sand and white chocolate rocks, or the Indian spiced chai with rusk cake.

Rich red and orange tones accent the dark furnishings and picture windows offer stunning views of the south of Edinburgh.

A wide menu includes some wonderful South Indian fare, as well as a tempting tapas style bar menu.

They have a few western favorites on the menus for those with less adventurous tastes and a number of Scottish – Indian fusion dishes which are worth a look.

A fresh and different style of Indian food is being pioneered at The Mumbai Mansion Restaurant & Grill in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh.

The award-winning kitchen team at The Mumbai Mansion Restaurant and Grill is led by head chef Pramod Nawani who has over 20 years of Indian culinary experience.

The Mumbai Mansion Manager Merwyn Pereira said: “We identified a gap in the Edinburgh dining scene for more high-end, Indian fusion food using traditional and healthier cooking techniques.

The Mumbai Mansion offers a full a la carte menu and a range of tasting menus featuring dishes such as Scallop and Mussels in Nilghiri, Grilled Lobster and Whole Leg of Scottish Lamb.

Head chef Pramod Nawani said: “We are lucky to have such fantastic local produce here in Scotland, from the land and the sea, and our philosophy at Mumbai Mansion is to delicately cook these fine ingredients and showcase their natural flavours and textures, complemented by classic Indian spices.”

Named after the stickers which are often found on Indian trucks, Horn Please is a contemporary Indian street food restaurant on Elderslie Street.

Horn Please delivers an intriguing menu which mixes traditional Indian street food with contemporary tapas to create its own culinary fusion.

Dishes like the mini dosas stuffed with bottle gourd and yellow lentil curry would not seem out of place in an Indian truck stop.

Dishes like the gram flour yoghurt curry with fried rice and crunchy masala okra or the mushroom and onion roll with braised spinach purée ensure that Horn Please will always be a culinary adventure.
