Jasmine Chinese Restaurant

After being in business for over 20 years, we are extremely sad to announce that Jasmine Chinese Restaurant will be closing its doors for the final time on Saturday, 20 January 2018.

We are transferring a number of staff and chefs to the Thai Lemongrass Restaurant at 40-41 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh EH10 4HJ (tel:  0131 229 2225), where we will continue to serve some of our most popular dishes.

If you’re looking for a great Thai restaurant, Edinburgh is packed full of choice, from relaxed café-style environments to those with more of a fine dining feel - to make your choice easier, we’ve shared our favourites below.

Seafood fans will love the tender soft shell crab in a yellow curry sauce infused with plenty of turmeric, and we love the sirloin steak grilled Thai-style, with a fiery garlic, chilli, pepper and Thai basil sauce.

We often order the massaman lamb curry: tender chunks of lamb in a rich and warming sauce packed full of coconut milk, potatoes and cashew nuts, and the lime and lemongrass sorbet is a lovely refreshing palate cleanser to end the meal.

The vegetarian spring rolls are full of flavour without being greasy, and their take on the famous Som Tum Thai salad of shredded vegetables, cashews and chillies is fresh and fiery.

For something new, try the Kua Kling: a southern Thai chicken dish packed full of spices and fragrant Kaffir lime leaves.

Traditional and cosy Thai in Bruntsfield, with a focus on seafood.

This traditional Thai restaurant in Bruntsfield features a warm and cosy interior, simply but stylishly decorated with wooden tables, red place mats and the obligatory big gold Buddha.

A Thai sampler starter comes with three separate tangy sauces that bring out the flavour of the likes of satay, spring rolls and prawn cakes.

A spicy green curry comes with your choice of chicken, prawns, pork or beef, while jumbo king prawns are steamed very lightly in white wine and served unaccompanied.

A safe, pleasant choice for neighbourhood Thai dining.

Takeaway review Unlike so many run-of-the-mill establishments, Curry Leaf makes a real effort at inventiveness and style.

Flavours are fresh, herbs are plentiful, and even the old favourites step outside standard expectations.

Particular stand-outs include the gosh kebab saslik: the lamb, unusually, still pink, set off by a fresh salad featuring paw-paw and cooling mint raita.

The sabz chilli dahl brings very fresh green vegetables together with tender lentils and cumin, and while it is a little on the hot side, it is the balance of spices that makes it a winner.

The bhindi bhajee is firmer than the norm, the okra cooked to a delightful al-dente consistency instead of the gluey squelch which many restaurants make of this misunderstood vegetable.
