I don’t often make it out to Craigmillar but I’d had the White House Kitchen on my radar for a visit for quite a while.
Selecting from their chalkboard I started with the split pea and bacon soup then thought I’d give their macaroni cheese a whirl.
It proved one of the best soups of the year so far, with a lovely rustic texture that packed oodles of charm and smoky bacon flavour.
So overall, I was glad to finally visit the White House Kitchen.

The White House | Community Alliance Trust
The White House was officially re-opened by Alex Neil MSP on Wednesday the 18th of September 2013.
Since then we have offered healthy food options through the White House Kitchen and space is also available for a variety of functions and event catering.
We are currently looking for a few green-fingered volunteers who would be interested in helping to grow fresh herbs and vegetables that can be used in the Kitchen.
We are also offering volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in working in the Kitchen.
