I’d noticed Riverlife’s arrival on Dalry Road a couple of years back, but had never had occasion to give it a try.

The place is BYO, which suited me fine on this occasion; I stuck to water.

It packed considerable depth of flavour and good fresh dill herbiness, but lacked a little of the expected sweetness.

The goat curry was very tasty, with good chunks of tender meat served in a warmly spiced sauce.

The accompanying rice was good, but the carrots and red cabbage were a little incongrous.

Those who desire a different kind of eating experience will not be disappointed by a visit here, as this is not your standard restaurant.

The amazing menu here is filled with French and Caribbean themed dishes, specifically dishes from the island of Guadeloupe.

The Head Chef, Mario Leon Caneval is passionate about cooking, and developed this love in Guadeloupe.

His aim is clear from something he said when opening his restaurant, “It is my job to ensure that every client experiences the best eating experience that I believe Caribbean and Provençale cooking can provide”.

First opened in 2012 Riverlife offers an eclectic range of French Caribbean dishes.

A new opening in 2012 in the less fashionable culinary end of town, Riverlife brings to the Edinburgh market its singular blend of French and Caribbean cooking.

The regular à la carte selection is more French-flavoured, with rack of lamb, confit duck leg and chicken supreme served alongside a signature rustic butterbean cassoulet.

On the first Sunday of every month or by arrangement for groups if booked ten days in advance, however, the Caribbean buffet features dishes like chicken liver Malibu, goat and vegetable curry and a spicy jerk chicken leg.
