They serve German Wiessbier, Belgian Triples, American Pale Ales and beers from the world famous Brooklyn and Kernel Breweries.

They also stock beers and ales from some of the best British breweries including Magic Rock, Tempest, Cromarty, Black Isle, Highland, Williams Bros and Fyne Ales .

The pub takes its name from the local Caledonian Brewery and they proudly stock the delectable Caley beer, Deuchar IPA.

The Caley Sample Room | The Skinny

As an ever-increasing amount of pubs jump on the food bandwagon, it can be tricky separating the real gastropubs from those labelling themselves as such for simply serving up more than two kinds of mixed nuts.

The Caley Sample Room is the real deal though.

Named after the Caledonian brewery down the road, it reserves just one pump for Caley beer – Deuchars IPA – but given that they have a range of ales and more than 40 speciality beers and 36 wines (22 of which are available by the glass), lack of watering options is not really a concern.

Similarly impressive is their selection of food – boasting an a la carte menu and daily specials board that is supplemented by a weekend brunch menu and a Sunday roast.

Caley earned a nomination for Best Pub Grub at the 2010 Scottish Restaurant Awards.

Homely, easy-going local with a hearty menu and some fantastic drinks options.

From the outside the Caley Sample Room doesn’t look like much but inside is light and airy and stylish.

Owners Joy and Nick Madigan (who also own Moriarty’s on Lothian Road) took over in 2016 and have kept the high arched windows and tiles of what was once, in folklore, the tap room of the nearby Caledonian Brewery and added a bare brick wall and a Farrow and Ball colour palette.

Beer still prevails, with a focus on Scotland – choice brews like Edinburgh Gold and Punk IPA are on tap.

And there’s even a dog menu, including dog beer (alcohol free) and beef sticks.

Located on Edinburgh’s unofficial Rugby Mile between Haymarket train station and the BT Murrayfield Stadium, the Dunstane has long been popular with rugby fans, for its buzzing match-day atmosphere.

The hotel’s beer garden is typically decked out with gazebos and rival rugby fans washing down one of the bar’s delicious Orkney steak burgers with an ale before the big game.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have tickets to a game at Murrayfield, you can set up base in front of the Caley Sample Room’s big screen and watch the action unfold.

Located just across the road from BT Murrayfield Stadium, this bar and hotel is a convenient spot for a pre or post-match drink.

This Murrayfield bar is a ten-minute walk from the ground and a great spot to enjoy a bite before, during, or after the game.
