Joseph Pearces's

Joseph Pearce’s | Boda Bar

Joseph Pearce’s is a landmark in Edinburgh and it has been open since 1898.

During the day a raised area to the back is a family-friendly haven, stocked with all the toys, highchairs for children and their parents.

From 5pm we let the grown-up children play themselves in an equally laid-back atmosphere.

Every Tuesday 7pm we jog from Joseph Pearce’s to Sofi’s via Water of Leith and in Sofi’s we get a glass of Lingonberry Cordial and then we jog back.

Please use the form below and ensure you fill out all the fields to book a table at Joseph Pearce’s and one of the team will be right back to you Anna & Mike and the whole lovely team in JP’s

Traditional pub, The Bow Bar, is the perfect place for whisky connoisseurs and real ale aficionados to enjoy a drink.

Stockbridge neighbourhood pub Hector’s is the perfect mix between a buzzing city bar and a friendly village local.

Casual bar at the top of the Walk with Scandi food and an intimate vibe.

The 2018 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+ ).

As an area of Edinburgh blessed with interesting venues and trendy hang-out spots, Leith is in no short supply of excellent bars and pubs.

Like its sister bars, the menu boats a Scandinavian influence, with traditional meatballs, smörgåsbords and a fine Nordic stew on offer, as well as gourmet burgers and open sandwiches.

Aside from the food and drink, be sure to check out JP’s regular events, including the weekly jogging club, Friday music nights and the ever-popular annual August crayfish party.

A-Z of Secret Edinburgh: Joseph Pearce's

This Swedish-owned bar is an Elm Row institution.

With high ceilings and huge windows, Joseph Pearce’s is kitted out in a relaxed, bohemian style (a bit like your granny’s front room if your granny was at all arty!)

Joseph Pearce’s attracts a smorgasbord of interesting characters, making it a perfect spot for a little people watching.

It also offers a vast variety of unusual bar activities including knitting, Scrabble and jogging clubs as well as hosting crayfish evenings!

The owners have three similarly chilled bars stretching the length of Leith Walk: Victoria, Boda Bar and Sofi’s.

You take one traditional nicotine-stained boozer much patronised by the sector, give it a fresh lick of paint and some quirky fittings, a Scandinavian-style bar menu, provide a welcoming space for children during the day, put seats outside but offer fleece blankets too (you are 56° north after all) then watch the punters roll in (except on Tuesday evenings when the bar runs a jogging club and some people literally run in).

Joseph Pearce’s has been around in one form or another since the late Victorian period but it took the vision of Swedish entrepreneur couple the Christophersons in 2008 to see the potential of the space and the location.

At lunchtime, toddlers can shovel down some meatballs & mash from the kids menu while mums and dads tackle an open sandwich with crayfish in sour cream dill sauce perhaps.

On sunny summer afternoons the terrace tables come into their own while evenings are likely to have parties of people enthusing about cocktails like the Pear and Cucumber Gin Fizz, or the legendary Hot Björn Borg (aquavit, chillies, lychee, lime and sugar).
