Ecco Vino Edinburgh | Spotted by Locals

Ecco Vino is the perfect place to stop for a glass of wine or a bite to eat on the way between the old town and Waverley train station.

Dark wood and rows of wine bottles add a cosy feel to the small wine bar.

The food is always fresh and tasty and the wine is always interesting and beautiful.

In the winter, they add mulled wine to the menu, a wonderful opportunity for a treat on the way home.

Any time of year Ecco Vino is the ideal spot for a casual glass of wine and a catch up with friends.

Ecco Vino | The Skinny

Amazing Italian restaurant tucked away on Cockburn Street.

Perfect for a glass of wine, with an excellent range on offer as well as some delicious anti-pasta and flavoursome traditional dishes.

Punters are likely to have a glass or two of wine and then eat, drink more wine, eat some more and generally enjoy dinner and drinking in a true relaxed Italian style.

Worth a visit for the wine alone, though a creative seafood menu means a glass can easily become a bottle.

Bottles adorn the walls and the wine list is so long that if you're hoping to make it to the bottom you'll need some fortifying olives to sustain you.

The mains menu has a Mediterranean feel and is split into land and sea sections.

Meat eaters can enjoy dishes such as slow roasted pork belly, served in generous portions with a bitter sweet jus, while pan-fried sea bream, sea trout and surf and turf are popular seafood options.

Obviously there's dessert wine to be had too, or consult the blackboard for the sweet of the day.

Ecco Vino | Bars and pubs in Old Town, Edinburgh

Relaxed Italian wine bar with a vast selection that caters to all palates.

A stalwart on the Edinburgh drinking scene, this intimate little Old Town wine bar attracts a loyal crew of after-workers, weekend shoppers and ladies who lunch.

It’s rare to see anyone nursing the likes of a G&T, and, given the tome-like wine menu, why would they?

Should you seek inspiration, bottles line the walls like part of the decor, though the slip recommending the Wines of the Month, is an altogether less taxing use of your time.

The mixed antipasti or charcuterie plate proving tasty companions to the wine.
