Hamilton's, however, makes an art form out of providing seriously delicious food without making those who are just there for a drink feel like they are simply squashed in at the bar.

Hamiltons Bar Review -

Summer is now over and my longing for an outdoor terrace to sit sipping on chilled white wine is now but a fleeting though, it is well and truly Autumn and one thing Edinburgh does extremely well is a cosy bar and one of my favourites is Hamiltons in Stockbridge.

Cocktails and wine are things Hamiltons do well with a drinks menu overflowing with choices.

There are lot of old bar favourites, Scottish Ale battered haddock, twice cooked chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce and an 8oz Scottish beef burger, Lockerbie Cheddar, tomato, dill pickle, twice cooked chips are perfect for people who don’t like anything too fussy.

There is also a great selection for vegetarians, I had the Sliced avocado, poached egg, toasted sour dough, (minus the chorizo jam) and the Sweet Potato bean burger loaded with cheese and twice cooked chips which were both perfect, but the Open ravioli; home-made pasta, broad beans, chick peas, French beans, cumin, toasted pine nuts, crème fraiche, parmesan also looked good.

Hamilton’s is the perfect spot to hideaway with a loved one for the evening, drink wine and eat good food in the coming colder months.

Hamilton’s Bar and Restaurant was the first location opened by independent bar group Big Red Teapot.

Both a bar and restaurant equally, Hamilton’s serves the locals of Edinburgh’s Stockbridge, providing good food and drink and a comfortable atmosphere which is ideal for friends and family.

Hamilton’s food and drinks menus change seasonally, making good use of unusual ingredients in an imaginative way.

The restaurant is a popular brunch spot with an unusual selection of breakfast dishes, including chia seed bowls and nasi goreng.

The bar is a cultural venue in Stockbridge, with live music sessions which support and champion local artists.

Hamilton’s has many of the ingredients of a good local: homely interior, reasonable house wine, decent beers on tap, plenty choice when it comes to wine and cocktails, comfort food (burger, fish and chips) and a great brunch selection.

So it gets the locals, from families in the day to couples on dates, big groups on nights out and nearby restaurant staff for after-work drinks (it’s always open till 1am).

But it also gets tourists visiting the Stockbridge farmer’s market and, thanks to Canadian chef MacKenzie Barker, the menu is more ambitious than your average local.
