China Red Buffet Restaurant in New Market Road Edinburgh ...

We had lunch at the China Red buffet restaurant in New Market Road, next to the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh, on a Sunday.

We’d eaten at the other China Red in Grindlay Street, next to the Usher Hall, on several occasions.

It costs £15 per adult to eat at the China Red buffet restaurant in New Market Street on Sunday from noon to 10pm.

I prefer the more traditional buffet lay out of China Red in Grindlay Sreet, where you go over to the counter to select food.

Also the Grindlay Street restaurant is in the city centre; I’m much more likely to be around there than out at the Corn Exchange.

Review of China Red Buffet Restaurant Grindlay St Edinburgh

food   value

The China Red Chinese buffet restaurant in Grindlay Street (just off Lothian and opposite the Usher Hall) in Edinburgh opened in April 2016.

Previously, the building was home to a Jimmy Chung’s Chinese buffet restaurant.

There’s another China Red restaurant in Edinburgh, in Market Place next to the Corn Exchange.

Prices at the Red China buffet in Edinburgh’s Grindlay Place vary according to the day of the week and the time at which you eat.

I think that the Red China Chinese buffet in Grindlay Street offers very good value for money.

With an absolutely massive range of dishes, even the pickiest diner will find something to their taste, and their high tech buffet tables ensure the hot dishes remain hot and the chilled dishes nice and cool.

They also have a great range of dim sum and a surprisingly extensive dessert menu with both Chinese treats and more familiar western puddings (such as a rather good carrot cake).

The buffet dining is perhaps not the most romantic option, but the food is really good and China Red is the perfect choice for dining in large groups or with children.

food

China Red opened less than six months ago and boasts the first fully air-conditioned two-tier food belt in the UK.

It allows the kitchen to send hot food out on the top deck, with cold starters and desserts down below, before it meanders like a slow- moving dragon between tables and booths on the restaurant floor.

Better still, the system at China Red all but guarantees the food is served at its best quality and taste – like yours truly in those bygone days up the dancing, it’s two tours of the floor before it’s quietly binned.

There’s method in the madness, of course, as better stock control from the kitchen means less food waste, which allows China Red to charge from just £8.99 for lunch for adults and only £5.99 for kids.

The food comes individually plated in small, sealed dishes, which only adds to the freshness, and it wasn’t just the children in the restaurant on the night we visited who loved the fun approach to it all.
