TartanSpoon - Edinburgh Food & Drink - A Review of Ishka

Their menu is a combination of Modern Scottish food with a nod to the Mediterranean, featuring Scottish seafood and game and vegetarian dishes.

This was a dish created to showcase the main ingredient, the pigeon set in a pool of thin beetroot discs.

Other dishes on the menu include Grilled Asparagus with with truffle paneer or Dressed Crab gazpacho.

For mains, my dining partner ordered the Rump of Lamb, haggis bon bons, aubergine and zhoug (a paste of coriander, cloves, parsley and green chilli).

Our other dessert didn’t disappoint either; this was the Passion Fruit Tart, with coconut cream and lime leaf ganache.

TartanSpoon - A Review of Ishka Afternoon Tea, Edinburgh

Afternoon Tea is a meal composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into ‘fingers’), scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes.

Above is the Afternoon Tea Cocktail menu with five cocktails available which is nice because had there been anymore to choose from, I think I would still have been there trying to make up my mind.

We start at the bottom with an array of sandwiches including Corn fed chicken, parmesan mayonnaise and rocket; Free Range Egg Mayo with baby spinach; Ham, cream cheese and heirloom tomato roll; Scottish Arran Smoked Cheddar and caramelised red onion; and Scottish Smoked Salmon pate and pickled cucumber crostini.

I do prefer the sweeter side of an Afternoon Tea and this is where you will find the scones with clotted cream and homemade jam!

Well more cake really … Middle tier is jam packed with a Rich Dark Chocolate Brownie, Banana and Walnut Loaf and a Raspberry Victoria Cream Sponge.

Gerry's Kitchen: Restaurant Review - Ishka, Morrison Street, Edinburgh

The menu had so many dishes that sounded delicious that we really couldn’t decide but after a brief chat with our waiter (who had been liaising with Head Chef), we ended up agreeing on a selection of starters to share followed by a selection of smaller portions from the mains.

Our starter of seared poppy & sesame seed venison, apple compote, blackberry & sherry dressing and watercress was a great balance of texture and flavour.

There was so much flavour in the terrine as the chicken, pork, spinach and sweet cured bacon all fought for attention on the palate while the apricot chutney brought enough sweet to cut through the iron from the spinach.

Last up was Nicola’s choice of starter, the smoked coley, leek & egg tartlet, dill dressing and warmed potato cream.

Our first choice of main course was the pork fillet & slow roasted pork belly, curried parsnip purée, apple & grape compote with curly kale & cider jus which was a great introduction to Chef Claire’s menu.

ISHKA Edinburgh - Launch Party | Of One Mind

Of One Mind worked closely with this brand new cocktail bar and restaurant to host its launch event in May 2017.

We created a small and intimate party of cocktails and canapés on their first ever open night.

Guests were thrilled with the new venue, enjoying the new interior, the cocktail creations and great service.

ISHKA has gone from strength to strength since opening, with many of the launch night attendees fast becoming regulars of Edinburgh’s newest west end destination.

Ishka, restaurant review, Edinburgh - Scotsman Food and Drink

The food at cocktail bar and restaurant, Ishka, needs refining, says Gaby Soutar What do you call someone who practices neuromodulation?

There was a take on a margarita (“Don Julio Reposado, amandine, grapefruit, vanilla nori, lime”) in a tumbler, but on top they’d put the surreal addition of an oyster shell containing a huge scoop of coconut ice-cream.

That was disappointing too, I’d ordered it for the truffle paneer ingredient, but there was barely a snuff spoon’s worth of non-truffled cheese on top of four shrivelled pieces of asparagus, like a bogeyman’s fingers.

Our chocolate and blackcurrant brownie (£6.50) was a bit more luxurious than your usual tray bake, with a middle of cocoa-y goo, buttons of berry coulis on the side and a blob of clotted cream ice-cream on top.

I enjoyed the mossy shreds of green pistachio cake alongside blobs of Italian meringue, quenelles of apple compote and caramelised nuts.
